Just a nickname for "Athletic" named clubs really. Oldham were just the first prominent Latic's I think.
I may be wrong but apart from Wigan, arent Oldham also called the Latics??
Or did I dream that up when thinking of John Sheridan in a thong??!
So who are the real Latics? And WTF is a Latic anyways???

If you attack me with stupidity, I'll be forced to defend myself with sarcasm.
Am i right in saying Sunderlands real name is Sunderland Athletic Football Club?
Funny how you never hear them called that
Alot of teams have the word 'Athletic' after their name (Leeds is another) but dont use the term day to day.
Similarly alot of "Spanish/Portuguese" clubs use terms like Racing, Real (Royal), Deportivo, Sporting, Atletico etc but dont always use them in day to day use.
Benfica's full name is "Sport Lisboa e Benfica" but then you also have Sporting Lisbon who's proper name is "Sporting Clube de Portugal".
Its a throwback to a bygone age when clubs were formed to play a multiple of sports. In Spain, some still do, especially basketball.

Leeds...........???? Are you sure on that one? Havent they always been LUFC
Usually if you have united or rovers etc after your name you would not also have athletic or something
i know Celtics full name is actually "The Celtic Football Club Athletic Association"
ya
thats Leeds United Association Football Club
loads of clubs go with AFC
It means association not athletic!!
I only realised the other day the AFC stood for Association football club.
I always thought it was Athletic Football club!
Here they come! It’s the charge of the “Thanks” Brigade!
lol
You learn something new every day !!
Didn't Leeds United only become "United" during the Revie era though?
Like Swansea City was Swansea Town up to 1970 or so.
That question was less stupid, though you asked it in a profoundly stupid way.
Help me, Arthur Murphy, you're my only hope!

Don't worry about the johhny-come-latelys in Wigan - Charlton tried to claim the 'Latticks' title year ago, but it just doesn't work with a Cockney accent... (maybe 'Flettick', not Lattick'...)
I always thought Latics was short for Palatics (i.e. drunks )![]()
