Do you work for RTE? All your threads are slatting Today FM stuff and now you are trying to big up RTE 2!
I am just a tad suspicisous!
With is great sport coverage - soccer , gaelic games, world cups, CL etc
the best America programes - CIS,Lost,24,Prision Break etc - the best news coverage and some good irish programes - Panel,Clinic etc
I seem to watch this station more than any of the other rubbish on Sky,Utv,BBC etc.

The clinic is not good, and it's not on RTE2 anyway.
The sport coverage is okay at best (especially when it's actually their own coverage), and not exclusive, bar the GAA (and they may well lose that to Setanta anyway).
The US series' says more about how small a market it is rather than how good RTE2 is.
News 2 isn't even the best news on RTE.
If you attack me with stupidity, I'll be forced to defend myself with sarcasm.
I'd have to agree as I only have Bog 1 and Bog 2. But in fairness it is pretty easy for them to just pick up the best US programmes and mix them with the few decent ones they do themselves. That and the soccer makes for good viewing plus Dunphy and Giles are great to watch theres no sensorship as you would have on the BBC

I don't really watch channels, just my favourtie shows.
The only RTÉ2 I watch is the sports coverage like the GAA and the football. None of the other programmes get my interest.
I don't think RTÉ2 is terribly exciting. They make their living off kids' shows, imported drama and comedy (their own is crap), and sport coverage (which isn't all that great). Occasionally they'll show a good film but their own productions, imo, are pretty poor.

I dont watch any particular channel more than others. The shows I watch are spread over a range of channels on Sky. I dont watch anything on UTV coz its not on Sky digital!
I would rarely tune into RTE2 unless they have something very good on soupy norman for example.
Normally by the time im home from work have the dogs walked floor mopped clothes washed dinner cooked and eatin its time to sit down for corrie at 8 its PS3/xbox time till about 10 then if there is something good on BBC mighty boosh for example ill watch that. then its bed time at 11 .
The premiership is gone so bad on RTE they made it an hour and a half long yet still have to squash in 4 games into a 3 min round up at the end. They talk way too much and show UTD way too much.
RTÉ seem to live off American drivel to an unhealthy degree. UTV is pretty much trash all the time, TV3 is the same channel with a different name, Channel 4 have a bizarre mix of complete rubbish (Eurotrash, Big Brother) and some very interesting stuff (anything with Tony Robinson, 15 to 1 and Crystal Maze when they were on, some very good documentaries). Have never once watched 6. BBC is miles ahead of anything else though.
Living in the UK has given me a new found respect for Irish TV.
The stuff that TG4 produce/commission is the best of actual Irish TV usually IMO
Oh no not them again

Have all Family Guy on DVD. Trailer Park Boys I saw once and thought it was rubbish. American Dad came across as a poor version of Family Guy. Generally have no time for American sitcoms, which rules out the likes of Seinfeld, Friends, etc.
American dad sometimes is better than family guy as they dont keep doing the remember when gag ( i guess it seems like a rip off being made and voiced by the same people ) trailer park boys is brilliant you have to watch a few episodes to get into it but its one of the best comedies on TV.
You really are limiting yourself by ruling out american sitcoms strange way to be since they are a number of really quality shows.

The mere fact that you typed the above and lumped Seinfeld in with "Friends" and "etc." shows that you need to lose the prejudice and expand your viewing habits
I enjoyed Family Guy when it first started but got sick of it very quickly. I suppose it might help to view it as a hit-and-miss sketch show about popular culture like Robot Chicken rather than an actual "sitcom" (not a dirty word by the way).

RTE2 has no competition in Irish context. They get licence fee money plus have revenue from commericals. You would be hard pushed to find any public service broadcasting on RTE2. With such a financial might TV3 cannot hope to compete for foreign programmes. Aside from sport I can't think of much else that I watch on RTE 2 as most foreign shows on other channels already.
TG4 get some very good foreign programmes but they get E25m annual subsidy so can punch well above their weigh.
Irish broadcasting should have a plan to move to digital where RTE could have their own sports channel. They could then sell off RTE 2 to create some competition & encourage the independent sector. 2FM should not get licence fee money either as no public service broadcasting.
BTW the Clinic is the type of dross that BBC show on day time TV but RTE place it at Prime Time.
That question was less stupid, though you asked it in a profoundly stupid way.
Help me, Arthur Murphy, you're my only hope!
