Is Roy Keane the worst manager in the Premiership?

The reported reason that he has only signed average, Championship level players is that last season he, and the rest of his staff, didn't expect to get promoted and had scouted players to get them promoted from the Championship this season. Since these are the only players he has managed to assess, he's gone for the best of them.

So Roy only had a plan B and stuck to it doggedly all through last season

I know the Drumaville Consortium bought the controlling interest in Sunderland but has Quinn put much of his own money in to the club I wonder? Also, being a professional footballer for most of his life, what qualification from a business point of view does he have to run a business like a football club?

I wonder is he just a figurehead Chairman, with the strings controlled by the Consortium, or does he have a real say in the running of the club? To be honest, and I like the man, he doesn't seem to be the sharpest tool in the box to me.

I can tell you now that quinn is sharp and is no fool..neither is his wife......He does have a say but not an all compassing one as the consortium is made up of other shrewd men

The club is now worth far more than when they purchased it.

That Prica looked half decent last night - took his goal very well. Bardsley was a lot more solid than Halford as well. From an Irish perspective I thought all the Irish lads had decent games - Murphy took his goal well and Miller was full of energy.

Yeah in fairness to Prica he did well when he came on. Very important goal for him on a personal level as he has just been left out of the Swedish squad for next week's friendly match.

Good to see Murphy get on the scoresheet. He had a very good second half against Spurs last time out and it's good to see him follow that up with another good performance.

Ya Murphy had a good game. I can't help but wonder about Liam Miller he just seems to lack pace over the first five yards his work rate was brilliant, but then again same could be said for all the players.

Bardsley done well very and is good in the tackle. Me thinks thats the end of Mc Shane and he can only blame himself.

Noswothy is so dodgy but he has great pace. Evans looks after him something rotten though he did get caught in the first half.

Prica looked a good player, doesn't seem to leap too well though, he is very strong. Hope he becomes a good player for Sunderland god knows they need it.

Well, he did it.

They looked a lot better since January and I think next year they'll be able to do better. At least he'll have one season in the top flight under his belt and he'll have an idea how to do it next year.

Keane is such a divisive character you rarely read a balanced analysis of his stewardship of Sunderland or his general character.When assessing anybody surely there is pluses and minuses..A guy from the Indo and Pat Dolan were recently heralding his achievements as a manager without assessing his success record with transfers etc.In fairness to Keane he has admitted losing 22 games can not go down as a successful season.
Personally I would give him some credit for keeping Sunderland in the Premier but he is going to have to do well in the transfer market to improve what is a very mediocre side.
Obviously there is the Saipan episode lingering in some peoples mind and will never have a good word to say about him.Likewise his "fans" have always defended him even when its clear he was in the wrong and at times it has looked pathetic- a bit like sucking up to the school bully.He has shown an admirable
growth in maturity last year or so but getting invovled in things like the Richard Sadlier incident is silly.Its a journalists job to get readable quotes.
I like the fact he has given so many Irish players an opportunity and hope he does well.

Hope Keano signs as many Irish lads as possible. Great for us if they are all playing Premiership football.

I don't think its that great, a lot of the Irish players seem to have gone backwards under Keane, like Stokes and particularly McShane and the way he publicly handled the Miller situation didn't impress me either

Id say keane could get a few off reading if they go down. He has spent money on pure sh*t players bar Reid.Ingimarson, Bikey, Hunt, Kitson off reading and forssell of birmingham is in the rumour mill

And no one else in the Premiership would be interested either ?

Kenyne Jones was a good buy imho along with Reid. Having seen both play for Wednesday and Ireland respectively, I could have told him that. I could also have told him that Harte was well past his sell by date but the omnipotent Roy knows best.

Chopra has been booked more than he has scored, he is prob never goina get 10+ goals a year. Jones wins a few headers but is average along with Bardsley and Evans imho.

Jones is so average Liverpool and Chelsea have been sniffing around him. He looks a quality player to me.

Bardsley and Evans were signed up in January and their defence improved no end - this in turn helped them stay up. I'd say they were two astute signings.

I think his signingings have been very hit & miss, Jones is a good player, as is the keeper Gordon & Reid has done well because he's had the good sense to give him a free role and stick a few battlers around him, Chopra, McShane, Stokes and a couple of others look like championship players who won't adapt.
In general despite all the guff, getting them up last season considering where they were when he took over was a great achievement, keeping them up was a solid job considering the moeny that was spent. Given the £30m+ they get just for staying up I think it was money well spent, if he adds a good centre half to his squad and a nippy striker to play alongside Jones they'll be mid-table next season, hard to see them cracking the top 8 without a fair bit of investment.

He bought some crap players alrite but in fairness if it was anyone else managing Sunderland would we be questioning the quality of signings? I think he expected to be in the Championship another year and consequently needed to off load a lot players he had brought to keep them up(they were rooted to the bottom when he took over). He then bought in some of the better championship players he had encountered and a couple of old pros to keep them in the Premiership. In all honestly who do people think they could have gotten in? Sunderland are not a big club. As someone else said I think he will be doing well to keep them up again next season. I cant see him attracting any big name players there in the off season.
