There was never a chance in hell of Mick coming back to the job as I said earlier. He left with yobs chasing the team bus spitting at him. As someone once said "They haven't gone away you know".
FFS, it was said to reinforce a point and isn't really relevant to this argument.

As already said I don't t hink he should come back but for people to trot out that 3 campaigns to qualify BS when we finished top 2 in every one of them annoys me. The point is that had the qualification criteria been the same for WC 98 as it was for WC 90 and WC 94 we'd have qualified, ditto for EC 2000 if it had been the same as it was for EC96 for example. 3 consecutive top 2 finishes in groups is a credible record for any Ireland manager to have.

    MICK.......Please NO!!!

Whatever the rights or wrongs, appointing a man who a substantial % of the support can't abide, hate( take your pick) would be doomed from the outset. Please, anyone but Mick.

Micko wont get the job end of story.

If he does its RIP Irish Football.

I'm not saying that he did bad job in his role as Irish Manager, dont like talking about "IF's" but he was unlucky not to get us to Euro 2000 to be fair.

I just think we need to look at soemone fresh and someone with different ideas would love to see an outsider basically a different approach from what we have been used to.

I'd take Dechamps or Jol over McCarthy in a heartbeat but are they really realistic candidates? Houllier doesn't seem to want the job...

As for McCarthy's job at Wolves, he performed a miracle getting them to the play offs last season which has cretaed unrealistic expectations, he's done a far better job there then Hoddle managed.
I think it's Venables wage demands that put clubs off him. Also at this stage of his career why would he want to manage at that level?

I'm sorry but I would take El Tel over Mick. I don't want him but his CV is more impressive than Mick's and players have always been complimentary about his training sessions wherever he has managed or assisted.

I think it's his abysmal record in his last 6 jobs (Australia, Pompey, Palace, Boro (same win ratio as Allardyce's at Newcastle, one is hailed a hero and one sacked ), Leeds and assistant at England) that puts them off personally.

No need to be sorry mate, it's all about opinions! Players always talk sh1te about their managers in my opinion, Venables reputation is only kept alive by the media at this stage, he;s as much yesterday's man as Howard Wilkinson or Big Ron.

that would apply to just about every canditate touted for the job

how anyone with the good interests of Irish football in mind could hate mick is beyond words and sums up the kind of eejits that follow our team. as a player and manager his contribution to Irish football over the last 20 yrs has arguably been as big if not bigger than anyone else in that time. anything to the contrary is just pure propaganda

It's for this reason that I would not want Tel. I don't care too much about the other stuff.

However if it was a toss up between Tel & Brady, then at least Tel has had some success.

......Would the good interests be served were Roy to take the helm?......In my opinion , no, for the exact same reason as outlined re " I don't believe in practicing penalties " mick

So your arguments are based on

1 Mick didnt cop Spain were down to 10 players, well neither did most of the fans in the stadium, BUT what we did notice is that Ireland threw everything we had at the Spaniards in extra time and it just wasnt good enough, we didnt sit back and play for penalties, unless of course i was at a different match

2 He didnt practice penalties, so what, penalties are a lottery we all know that

Obviously, thats not the argument( bitchy swipe yes). The point is , both Saipan protagonists still retain the ability to divide the support, this thread 6 years on is a prime example.

Mick coming back would drag up all sorts of Saipan **** again. He did well with us and was a great servant on the pitch but we need someone new.

Well I am very much Anti Roy Keane but I still supported him 100% when Kerr brought him back.

All I want is for Ireland to start winning again and if that means Mick and Roy working together so be it..anyway Roy has changed his attitude since becoming a manager
