    Freebooters FC

This is probably in the wrong section, but Im looking for some information on Freebooters FC, they were a Cork based side which my grandfather played for. From what i believe they reached the finals of the cup (late 30's or 40's) and ended up having to play a replay against Bohs (which they lost).

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Saw your note over on the IL section about this.

What was the name of your grandfather, as I'll check to see if he was listed as a player in the 1901 IFA Cup winning team.

No team called Freebooters ever made a final of the FAI Cup.

If your grandad played for them in the 1930's, then I suspect the IFA-era team were a different Dublin-based team than the one you're talking about.

I'm involved with Freebooters in Kilkenny.
Our name came from the club of the same name in Cork.
They were members of the Cork Shipping league.
Freebooters were a band of pirates and hence the shipping connection.
A fella moved from the Cork club and was involved in setting up the club in Kilkenny.
Coincidentally as it turns out the horse that won the grand national
in 1950 (the year our club was formed) was also called Freebooter.
I don't know too much about the club in Cork but if you have any other questions, contact me at freebootersfc@hotmail.com

Do you have a club website?
The SFAI are the governing body for grassroots football in Ireland, not the FAI. Its success or the lack of is all down to them.
