United fans want to see a win

Can Galway United continue their winning run or will Dublin City continue their quest for promotion?

After drawing five league outings on the spin Galway United finally registered their first win of the campaign with a 5-0 thrashing of Cobh Ramblers last weekend. That result pushed last season’s promotion play-off finalists up to seventh place but they are still five points off a top four spot. There is still over three-quarters of the season to go but even at this early stage Tony Mannion’s side don’t want to lose ground in the promotion race.

An ankle injury rules out Barry Moran but John Russell who was exam-tied last weekend returns to the squad while the manager hopes to continue with last week’s starting eleven.

Dublin City’s early season promise has waned a bit in recent weeks. After shooting out of the blocks with three wins on the bounce, John Gill’s side have won just one of their last four league outings and drawn two. They dropped two more points at home to Monaghan United in their most recent outing. On a positive note three of their four wins have come away from home. With goalkeeper Robbie Horgan doubtful with a hamstring injury, Brendan Kennedy is on standby for the Whitehall-based side.

Both sides could do with landing all three points. While a sharing of the spoils wouldn’t be a bad result for the Vikings, it would be the Tribesmen sixth draw in the league; the same number as Dundalk, and could see them lose further ground in the promotion race.
