Good bit of travelling but could be a laugh!!
dont think there is many of us going from our group! in fact it maybe only myself going. thats the only thing thats putting me off this trip!!
is there many other lone irish travellers out there besides the limerick crew!!![]()
Same here.
I rang Ryanair and they said that the flights had been changed and that the emails were in a queue to be sent. How long does it take to send an email!
They also said that because it was more than two hours of a change we'd get a full refund. So I just changed the Dublin to Stanstead flight to a Dublin to Rome direct flight.
It has actually worked out cheaper and now we don't have to get as many flights. For once a cancellation has worked out in our favour!
Dublin to Rome now costs 120 flying in on the Tuesday and back on the Thursday. And then 124 from using Easyjet to fly to Bari on the Wednesday and back to Rome the next day.
Has anyone booked train tickets from Rome to Bari and if so had anyproblems with their website?
Going down to Bari on the Wednesday morning, have logged into the Trainitalia website, they give you a password etc. problem i have is when i put in credit card details it declines me at that point. have been on to Credit card company and they say no problem from there end. Just wanted to have tickets bought Saint as dont think my Italian will be too hot on that Wednesday morning!
Booked into Rome on Sunday and out of Milan the following Sunday. E75 all told, and hope to get a midnight train from Bari after the match, which'd save me finding accommodation in Bari and also gets me into Milan at 9:30 the following morning, which sounds perfect timing!
Train to Bari on Wednesday could be a problem though. I think I remember that problem (Italian address) from getting a train from San Marino/Rimini to Rome last time.
Yeah we tried it too but they sent back an email looking for a photocopy of a valid ID of the person associated to the User ID and a copy of the tax code number and all that carry on. Dunno what thats about. And I thought the Germans were particular in requiring info when you want to book something. Anyway I reckon well just get it through an agency here as itll be less hassle (hopefully).
Lads, just booked the train tickets, went for the standard fare (€41 Single) and used a different credit card. With my previous attemps i had been going for the cheapest option (€31) and it would not work, I had registerd earlier with them, and they did ask me for ID which i sent and gave them my mobile no. I know it seems like hassle but with an early start on match day i dont want to have to worry about train tickets.
I am in Rome on Monday so I will wait until then to book the train as you never know they may have some sort of a special train going down to Bari for the match , as with the Italians you just never know what they will do .
Yeah, apparently Italy Train Stations are not very organised. Anyone know of any good pubs in Rome for the night before?
The Shamrock on Via del Colosseo isn't bad. It's an Irish bar, but it's like a proper pub instead of some themed nonsense. Load of football scarves over the bar and, if it hasn't changed, a UCD scarf (and a Galway one) in pride of place behind the bar. It's down a narrow lane about five minutes' walk (if you don't get lost, which you probably will) from the Colosseum and the Colosseo matro station.
I much prefer trains to planes, to be honest. Not up for another flight across the country.
I worked with the Tartan Army in Milan, Ljubljana and then Bari - have also worked with Celtic supporters in Copenhagen, Milan (twice) and Barcelona.
When Scotland played in Bari there weren't enough hotel rooms and we organised buses from Rome, Naples and Ancona for those who only wanted to travel to the match. We also had a beach party and buses to and from the match. The local council put on a free bus service to the stadium but this was far from adequate.
I am from Belfast and based in Rome (beside the Vatican) and a "regular" on Celtic Minded. You can contact me for information and/or help.![]()
