Went to see him last nite in Vicar St. Never really paid much attention to him before so didnt really know what his stand up was like. have to say I was gob smacked as to how he is so popular. For a comic he seems to lack even basic comic timing. He uses the word **** as a device to get cheap laughs. and some of his jokes would make Jim Davidson think twice. Worse still was the audience. He was doing some "shocking" material on down syndrome people and immigrants which in fairness wasnt malicious but coupled with the low IQ of the audience made me feel very uncomfortable.

Billsthoughts its simple slap stick, that gets the dubs going and the simple-minded country folk. ANYONE WHO needs to CURSE every 5 seconds is not a comedian. He is completely over-rated and crap. Most annoying fella ever, thats why he never made it big outside of Ireland either.

I remember seeing him twice in college three of four years ago and he was quality. Got the DVD he had out last Christmas and though his standards had dropped considerably. If the downward spiral has continued I can see how he'd be more irritating than funny. He seems to have run out of ideas.

Totally agree, that smug look on his face is unbearable.He so badly wants to be Bill Hicks.His jokes about the Church and supposedly more controversial material might have been cutting edge 15 years ago, now he comes across
as just desperate.

In fairness Im not saying anyone who likes him is an idiot. Each to their own. Im saying the whooping and hollering from the audience at the randomest of things (at one stage he did an apu style indian impression) didnt suggest mensa were having their xmas do there.

Mate of mine went to see him in Ennis. He was having a cheapshot at Disabled People as part of the show,something about how come Disabled People get the parking spaces nearest the door of buildings, A girl in a wheelchair was in the audience and he had a pop of her, she left in a huff. As she was leaving he thanked her for her 30 Euro Entry fee.

Thats not funny imo, just Bad ****.

Always found him funny. He doesn't make a habit of cheap laughs, and is certainly one of the more liberable comedians around

That pretty much sums up my opinion of him too, though I don't give a damn about the look on his face. I don't find his material funny. I don't even find it offensive.

I was going to see tommy before he was big before he got banned from the late late show and had to be protected leaving from the waiting mob outside ! good old ireland hey .

Thought his first DVD was very good and the 2nd one also since then i have found his shows fairly similar to early stuff and often repeats the jokes.

There has definetly been a decline in quality , and i know what you mean about his Irish fans laughing at anything, on Darcy this morning he was nt great yet they where falling around the place ( at least it sounded like that being on radio and all ).

But you get fanatical fans like that in ireland its why Aslan can sell out gigs

I think Tommy Tiernan is a genius, really knows what its all about to be Irish, maybe some people cant understand his deep stuff..........

but having said all that he does attract a lot of people who arent really at his shows for the comedy but cause he is cool at the moment.........just look at his third DVd and you will see people laughing their heads off at the slightest thing even when there is no actual joke told

That is shocking. He crossed the line.

I was at Des Bishop in the Town Hall Theatre in Galway earlier in the year and his jokes were getting very sexist (I can't for the life of me remember what he said but I do know that it wasn't funny). A young lady (18ish) behind me stood up and asked him to withdraw the remark but he refused, He tried to move on but she persisted. He was completely wrong footed and his show died after that. She and her 3 friends got up and left.
