Lawrenson just been on today FM saying a very reliable source of his has told him that Venables has been offered the Ireland job and is currently considering it. Apparently he has other options.
For the love of God NOOOOOOOO!!

This was in the Graeme Souness thread-Bit of a contradiction. Telling one story to The Times, while doing another. I mean, no professionally run organisati............ah. the FAI. Never mind.Souness to be interviewed next week according to the Times.
Graeme Souness, the former Newcastle United manager, is to hold discussions next week about Ireland’s managerial vacancy. He will meet a three-man “headhunting” panel - Don Givens, Don Howe and Ray Houghton – appointed by the Football Association of Ireland to find a successor to Steve Staunton. Souness, who has also managed Liverpool, Benfica and Blackburn Rovers, has been a media pundit since leaving St James’ Park in February last year. Terry Venables is also among the candidates.
I would not trust Lawrenson on this.
In Trap we trust
Surely the FAI should be judged on facts rather than one report in the Times being contradicted by one report by an ex player who is not withing the process who has a reputation for talking ****e.

If it's true the whole "selection process" is a farce and a deceipt of the highest order. The fans and the public will have been treated like idiots.
I've no doubt he'll be interviewed. Ray Houghton's involvement gives me a degree of faith that a proper process is being followed and that, as Delaney says, the 3 man team will decide on the manager and the FAI will ratify it.
Lawrenson can't lose. Venables probably will get the job and if he doesn't he can always hide behind Venables "turning it down" regardless of what actually happens.
lawenson is talking through his arse here. the panel haven't even interviewed venables yet. they are though set to interview him in the next few days.
a few weeks ago lawenson's mate cascarino on today fm said delaney was meeting a candidate to offer him a job in a london hotel. this turned out to be delaney meeting with townsend to ask him about criteria for the new manager.
At this stage, I'm so fed up with the gossip & nonsense spouted by people in the public eye that I think the fans' best tactic is to sit this one out. For once I believe the FAI when they say they haven't spoken to Venables.
How would Lawernson Know? It sounds like xillob to me. If Venners was offered the job his many friends would be hammering the bookies and he would be 1/50 not 13/8. I have a feeling that Venables was interviewed within the last 2 days. Wasn't offered the job but was giving some indication that the interview went well. His handlers then contacted the Bulgarian FA and put his name forward to put pressure on the FAI. I will jump off the Spire if Venables is appointed Bulgarian manager. I'm certain it is a ruse to put pressure on the FAI.

The action on Betfair is interesting to say the least. First, at around 3pm venners was backed into 1-2 and then within ten mins was back out to 3-1!
Then he was backed into odds-on again, before drifting out to 4-1!
Now at 2-1
Madness, nobody knows IMO

Terry Venables has been offered the Ireland manager's job.
Sources have reported that Venables is being offered the position due to interest from Ireland's World Cup qualifying opponents Bulgaria.
The former England boss is the front-runner to take over the eastern European team.
What will happen will be a Terry Venables rejuvinated tactically astute Bulgarian team, enjoying their football emmensly, toy playfully with a boring defense minded Irish team set out by Hodgson to win 0-0 but failing.
FAI deny radio report

The spokesman said: "The report, which is being broadcast on Today FM, is not true. At present, the panel which was set up to recruit the new senior team manager is in the process of contacting potential candidates to set up interviews and it is completely erroneous to suggest that somebody has been offered the position."
Yeah I said straight away he did not have a clue what he was saying and Houghton has confirmed there on the Premiership that nobody has been appointed yet.

I think Noely is close to the mark though, suggesting the Bulgarian story was manufactured by Venabales' cronies to put either (a) put pressure on the FAI or (b) give Venables a degree of credibility.
I'm cautious about the threat that Bulgaria poses to our qualification chances. I'd be less cautious if Venables was managing them.
