Marge: Homer, the plant called. They said if you don't show up tomorrow don't bother showing up on Monday.
Homer: Woo-hoo. Four-day weekend

Does anybody know if Howe is actually being paid by the FAI or is he just there in some sort of advisory role?
Are you rejecting him because of the media campaign for him or because he's not the man for the job or both? I am not bothered about the media campaign. There was a large campaign against Jack's appointment but that soon withered away (where are you now Con Houlihan?).
I am against the appointment because I honestly think his best days (such as they were) are behind him, he sees our position as a nice sinecure and there are better (eg Hodgson) out there.
That said, if he is appointed, it could be worse because he's not a novice, has experience and would probably be respected by the players.
Forget about the performance or entertainment. It's only the result that matters.
I was trying to say above that that's how I would feel if I could think about it objectively (i.e., I don't want him, there are better candidates but we could do worse - and have done frequently). However, the media campaign and other factors mean I can't think about it objectively - I dislike him intensely and I hate the media campaign and the lack of thought. These subjective matters dominate the objective view that he might be ok.
This 3-man committee nonsense should be immediately disbanded. FAI shambles number 194. Howe is going through the motions in regards to selecting our manager. The FAI ahve to approach the best man for the job. If he declines then go onto the next best candidate.
Honest! I am not a secret Tim nor a closet Sham - I really am a Seagull.
Howe says that Venables has the knowledge of the English game necessary to complement Capello's knowledge of the game as played in Italy and Spain.
Is such English-specific knowledge required in our context? Yes, all our players play in Britain but all our candidates are either English, brought up in the English system or at least with a very good knowledge of it (Jol, Houllier, Haan to a much lesser extent).
I hope Shearer gets the job as Capello's token Englishman. Capello will be banging on about keeping the ball, being patient, drawing the defender, switching the play etc. and Shearer'll be on the sideline shouting "down the channels, get in amonst 'em!"

Bulgaria have apparently contacted TV:
http://www.skysports.com/story/0,195...974340,00.htmlThe Bulgarian Football Union has revealed that it has approached Terry Venables about becoming the next manager national manager.
Venables has been named on a seven-man shortlist, as the BFU look for Hristo Stoichkov's permanent successor.
If there is anyone from the Bulgarian FA reading, Venables is a great coach, a top guy with undoubted commitment to the job and just look at how well England did in Euro '96. McLaren as a muppet, undoing all of Venables' undoubted good work with England recently. Players like him too. Respected journalists, guys I've always admired like Paul Hyland and Dion Fanning rave about him and who am I to argue with football brains of this calibre?
Who are the other 6 candidates?![]()
According to Mark Lawrenson on the Premier League programme on Today FM Terry Venables has been offered the Ireland job. He says he has it 'on very good authority'. He also said that Venables is considering the offer over the next few days as he has other options to consider.
Wonder what the other options are. Perhaps he's being offered some role with England?
He's been offered the Bulgaria job too.
Manage Bulgria Terry, you know it's right.
I'd say he will go for Ireland over Bulgaria.
