I would have a lot of time for carsley. agree on o shea tho.
It seems to be 50-50 as to who is making a bigger farce of the process - the media or the FAI ? leaks should be controlled a bit better. The only statement to come from FAI should be when the appointment has been made. The selection commitee thing should never have been mentioned until they had people in place. It was pure smokescreen to divert attention away from delaney for the staunton disaster.

At he time he said "As soon as I am playing again, I will be straight on the phone saying I want to be considered for the Ireland squad".

He was available for a number of squads and wrongly ignored before being recalled.
I don't have a problem with him, I'm just asking why is he involved in the process? He has retired prematurely before (regardless of the reasons) and will do well to feature by the end of the next campaign. I would have said the same about Stephen Carr if he had been included. None of the players should have been consulted. Its up to them to perform for the manager chosen, not for them to have an input in to who this person is.
I'm aware of Carsley's background and family issues.

How can the media make a farce of an appointment that has nothing to do with them, sure they have written opinion pieces that people don't agree with but outside of reporting the mad hatter's antics, I don't really see what farcical role they are playing.

Everyday there is a new piece about who is in the running and who is not. who has been consulted and who hasnt.....the giles as kingmaker ****e...
Am not one to blame the media for everything but in this case I think they are adding to a sense of farce. I dont mind opinion pieces on the merits or demerits of the respective canditates. Its the "an FAI insider says...." pieces that do my head in.

Dion Fanning is the most culpable for the whole "insider" lark. He's being going on and on and on about Venables with no good reason. Its almost as if the more he goes on about it the more likely the FAI will be to consider Venables.
What I hate is the fact that he never really considers any other candidates. He never objectively looks at other candidates. I hate him.

Fanning was on Newstalk yesterday afternoon, and , open minded as he wanted to appear, the general gyst of his dictation was that anyone who objected to (what he considered) the imminent appointment of Venables was either :

    A) An enemy of Football
    B) Not as clever as him
    C) Eamonn Dunphy

    OR

    D) All three.

End of. There was no middle ground.
On the way into the stadium, an elderly San Marino Steward waved us in and said "Tonight, may the best team win"

    And they nearly did.

The problem is that Fanning is not even a football fan. He does not have a clue. How the Sunday Independent is the biggest selling newspaper I will never know.

agree about fanning, youd swear he put a load of cash on it...he even dismissed the houllier possibility as a laughable suggestion...he deffo has an agenda somewhere along the line...

If venable does get appointed and it does go pear shaped, then fanning will have alot of egg on his face...

    Venables ffs!!

It sounds like the Robson/Staunton world class combo, only even worse. However, I think this is just media b*llsh*t; they're just looking for a story to sell papers.

    Don't believe everything you read.

It is obvious that this combo has only come from one side and it's not Townsend. The tail is definitely wagging the dog here.

Think about how Bobby Robson was touted as last manager and when it was leaked to gauge public reaction it was quickly reversed with Stan getting the Gaffers job.

I suspect those pimping Venables are aware of the feelings towards him and by adding Andy to the ticket may make it more palatable to joe public.

    Just my informed opinion btw

Well its hardly a case of 2 cockneys is better than 1!

I think adding Townsend to the Venables "ticket" makes it even less appealing.

FFS why cant the FAI just get this right and go after a proper Manager.

I think its funny that people on here get annoyed about things that have not even happend. THe FAI are frustrating enough and they wreck your head about things that do happen so its not good for all our healths to get annoyed by things that have not even happened yet. Everybody take a chill pill and wait and see who they have appointed. Venables bad, Hodgson good.

It's not the FAI, it's one person and his spin doctor

I don't want El Tel and I definitely don't want an assistant manager with no coaching qualifications whatsoever. Is there one person on this forum who wants that orange cockney? I'd rather have Big Ron - yep that is how bad this potential appointment is. He's won an FA Cup with Spurs, a league and cup with Barca (I can do that on football manager if I wanted to) and he got to a semi final at Euro 96 (as hosts). When you consider South Korea got to a world cup SEMI FINAL back in 2002 it puts his achievement into perspective.

I think anyone who has been out of management since the turn of the century should be discounted, unless of course they're a former World Cup winning manager. Cue picture of Delaney rolling Alf Ramsey's coffin out the tunnel of croker with delaney's hand moving alf's jaw in a miming action. Wiggum?

Lawrenson was talking him up big time on the Last Word this evening. Sounded even persuasive. Lots of texters with other suggestions but none mentioned Hodgson. Souness apparently wants to buy a club so he's out of the running.

Wake me up when the selection panel members have been finalised. Then we and the press can engage in informed, as opposed to uninformed, spectulation.
