I think he resigned in the same way that Kerr was sacked. He did not re sign a contract and Kerrs contract was not not resigned.

The only difference was that Finland wanted Hodgson to return, whereas Kerr was not given the option a new contract.

Nothing has really changed today. It was commom knowledge his contract was up on November 30th and it was 99% certain he would not sign up again.
They FAI are not going to suddenly go after him now...they are hopeless

He will be.

By England and Scotland.

Our boys are currently on the pish in stringfellows planning the best way to announce a clear and honest selection process that will result in the announcement of Venables as new Irish manager.
On the way into the stadium, an elderly San Marino Steward waved us in and said "Tonight, may the best team win"

And they nearly did.

True, all we do know is that the one man who said he wouldnt be contacting anyone in relation to the Ireland job contacted Paul Jewell in relation to the Ireland job.

That was simply a solitary ingredient of this rich farce. How can we depend on a man who cant keep track of the lies he's told, mere days after he's told them?

Blind faith and eternal optimism?

Come on John, do it, you know it makes sense.

We won't get him. Not now with all these other countries managerless. I can see him taking the Australian or England job.
I think I should the parachute, because I'm great.

In fact, I think I should get both parachutes, in case one doesn't work.

- I cant see him being in the running for the England Job - Not High profile enough to satisfy the english media/fans

- Surely the irish job would be more appealing than the Australian gig, what with proximity to home and the like.

get on the phone to the man now and ask for a sit down. No harm in finding out whether he'd be tempted.

To be honest, I'd say the Australian job is far more appealing.

Just seen this quote from Dick Advocat on why he turned the Australian job down in favour of staying at Zenith St. Petersburg.....

Asked exactly why his future would be in St Petersburg rather than Sydney, his answer was simple.
"I couldn't refuse this offer. It was quite a lot of money, to be honest."
''How much more?''
"It was not double, it was more."
That's a lot then?
"Much more."
Surely we would be offering more than the Australians could afford?

I doubt we'll ever find out, as he more than likely wont feature in the Irish search.

Venables was contacted last Saturday by the FAI. The English Journalist (can't remember his name) who is a regular contributor to newstalk's On The Ball was having lunch with TV last Saturday when Venables recieved a call from the FAI. Was covered on last nights show.

I bet Venables bought the lunch too.

From 11-a-side.com:

The 60-year-old Englishman – who has also been linked with the England manager’s position – is expected to be one of six or seven prospective managers to meet with the FAI’s independent subcommittee over the next week.

Hodgson is currently 18/1 fifth favourite to succeed Steve Staunton in Irish football’s top job.

Will they really meet 6-7 candidates?
