exacterly, why can't they sound-out Hodgson in the same was as they did Jewell??

I agree. I think the newspapers and some fans have taken Delaney's attempt here to keep the panel's options open as something it's not. The Indo's coverage in particular was a pathetic attempt at journalism, stating opinion as fact.
You can't spell failure without FAI

Because his most vocal critic, Dunphy, put forward Jewell's name?

i think he rang him out of courtesy to be honest.

    or maybe something like this:

"Giles told me you want to go back into club management?"
"yep - i wanna work with top quality players like Tyrone Mears and Matthew Oakley on a daily basis"
"bad buzz, do you fancy doing a bit of part time work on the side as a member of me and john courtenay's selection panel to pick venables, do ya?"
    "-
"hello?.....hello?.....ah well i can get andy townsend instead he'll pick him"

Linking him with the England vacancy. One thing that worries me about this article is that he seems to be implying that he won't put forward his own name - if someone wants him they'll have to contact him, and I'm not sure if the FAI is capable of this.

He also indicated strongly that he's open to being approached.

It's a no-lose situation for FAI. If they don't like him after an interview, fine, but not approaching him especially after all the guff about doing the right thing would represent a massive neglect of duty.

This is feckin torture! Here we have the real deal in limbo waiting to be approached and yet time ticks by. He is willing to talk to federations/clubs - he said so himself.

The Finnish press conference is tomorrow. It's extremely unlikely they will announce anything other than his departure. The only reason he will stay on is because he wants to continue working and as, inexplicably, no one seems to have shown an interest in him could sign another contract.

    N. Ireland wanted him when Sanchez left. They approached him in mid contract with Finland and yet we ignore him when he is out of contract. How ridiculous can it get?!!

By the way how long does it take to form a ****ing selection committee. Do something you ****ing imbeciles!!

....By the way, I still foolishly refuse to believe Venables has the job...it just can't be so

Long enough to allow credible candidates to conveniently slip away into other roles, leaving only one candidate?

Roy Hodgson is part of the English FA selection committee with Toshack, Platini and Beckenbauer.
Meanwhile, in contrast with the FAI's reluctance to reveal any names, the English FA's chief executive Brian Barwick has revealed the experts that he has spoken to in relation to filling their managerial vacancy. They are Uefa chief Michel Platini, German legend Franz Beckenbauer, Welsh manager John Toshack and Finnish boss Roy Hodgson

Is this the same Dunphy who used to have John Delaney on the Last Word every week during the Byrne era. `You`re one of the good guys John, one of the reformers...`.

Possible candidate for England job then?

Strange for him to resign if he is not fairly sure he has a job elsewhere!

Roy has announced his resignation from the Finland job!

Roy Hodgson has resigned as coach of Finland following their failure to qualify for Euro 2008, sparking rumours he could be in line to take over Scotland or the Republic of Ireland.
