Did he mention the Ireland Job?

Last mention on betting on Hodgson from me, best odds that I can find are Ladbrokes @ 20/1, have checked numerous other sites that will match you first bet (usually up €25, €50 or sometimes €100) on joining but most of them have no market on the next Irish manager, if they do then they odds are less than Ladbrokes.

i'd say roy hodgson was in london on his way to the world cup draw much like john delaney was in london on the way to the world cup draw.
i'm sure he will be interviewed imformally at least and i'd be shocked if he didnt impress

Yeah, he said he was offered it and would sign in the morning. Sorry, don't know how I forgot to mention that.

If the FAI ever listen to what the fans want....the fans want an approach made to Roy Hodgson, I would be delighted if he was given the job.

I'm totally sold on Hodgson, he knows the game and he'll know our players.

    time to act i think
story linking hodgson to the vacant australian manger job

    http://www.theage.com.au/news/soccer...753382162.html

The Englishman narrowly failed to qualify for next year's European Championships with Finland and is understood to have made his interests in the Australian position clear.

There is an opportunity for the FAI to step in and try to attract Hodgson now. I got to say that Australia seems like a more attractive proposition, especially as they are in the Asian qualifiers. No more qualifying by playing a selection of menaingless games followed by all or nothing in a playoff.

to be honest he hasnt said a great deal in the the last 2 videos there. He says the problems that arise for both teams, which are fairly obvious, especialy from a tactical point of view if you are playing a 4 - 5 - 1 or a 4 - 4 - 2, but he doesnt give any actual solution of how you could counteract this. Thats the real problem here, its obvious the lone striker is going to get isolated from midfield as the more attack minded midfielder has to get back and defend, its also obvious that the right and/or left wing ( depending on player sent off i spose ) has to double up and help the full back. These are all obvious things, but the solution that he never offered is how you can go about attacking and scoring when down to 10 men....

    Finland 0 – 0 Poland

    Portugal – Finland playing tonight

Mixed enough and they’re really only still in contention because Portugal shipped 90th minute equalizers in back-to-back games in September with Poland & Serbia (I laughed sadistically at the time, thinking that I knew how they felt!).

That said, very respectable results with what I guess isn’t that strong or deep a squad and only slipped on one of a few banana skins.

By comparison Portugal and Poland each won by 2 in Azerbaijan, Serbia by 5 whereas Finland lost.

At least Kazakstan didn't beat them 5-2 and draw with them in Helsinki!
Given the tricky Eastern European nature of our group for the World Cup, how does Hodgson's record in those games make people feel?

i saw highlights of that Azerbaijan away game they lost and they were all over them and then let in a jammy last minute goal they werent outplayed or anything.

    venables managed england 25 times
only 3 of those games were away

v ireland lost 0-1 (its up on the fa's website as that and im not gonna disagree with them)
    v norway drew 0-0
v china won 3-0 (china were really awful in the 90s)

And all friendlies. Venables didn't have to take them through a Qualification campaign.

Bobby Robson is helping the FAI and the FA select new managers. This might work in our favour. Robson is known and respected around Europe. He could "sell" the Ireland job to those managers who won't get the England job. We can't pay the same money as England but if the FAI are offering a decent package then we might end up with a top European coach yet.

Hodgson has just said on skysports that he has had one particular offer that he is likley to take up. I hope it is us.

    Ye just saw that.
He acknowledged that finland still want him but he is unlikely to continue as their manager because he has a few offers and he would like to take up one of them.

Fingers crossed. Although Australia have entered the race for him and are quite an attractive proposition. He would feel he could definitely qualify them.
