I was at Middlesboro vs Wednesday at the weekend. Nice ground. 'Boro were brutal but still managed to win 1-0. Someone whom I always scoffed at during his Celtic days as being a headless chicken came back to bite my ass, Scott McDonald who scored a deflected goal. Otherwise he was anonymous. Potter and O'Connor did well in midfield for Wednesday but still gave the ball away needlessly on occasion.

Sheffield derby this Sunday. Not since the Cup Semi Final in 1993 has there been a more important derby, at least for Wednesday.

I would like to wish you luck on Sunday Beaky, but for obvious reasons that is not possible.........the Hornets are away at Leicester on saturday so cannot see any points for us....next game will probably be crucial to our survival hopes....away to QPR midweek (this is our "game on hand" ) where avoiding defeat would give us a great chance of staying up

I think you are safe. Wednesday have Sheff U and Palace at home (last game) and Swansea away. Remember only one team can get the maximum points in that last game so one has to emerge empty handed (a draw will suit whoever is ahead at the time). Wednesday will get nothing away to Swansea and a Sheffield derby is a lottery.

Leeds looking good for automatic again after their major blip. They're hitting a winning run at just the right time and the fixtures at the wkd could enhance their position further. They'd be expected to win comfortably at Gillingham with Millwall having a difficult trip to Huddersfield on Friday night. There's an outside chance they could even catch Norwich at the top the way recent results have been going. Unlikely though. Southampton are making a serious push for a playoff spot. They still have a lot of work to do but their fixture list looks favourable, especially once they get the trip to Yeovil out of the way on Saturday.

Never doubt Leeds capacity to do it the hard way. I thought they'd beat the gills (missing four regulars) yesterday as well ...three nil down inside half an hour.
Tough enough finish to the season as well with Mock Dons, Charlton away and Bristol Rovers. All top 10 sides but hopefully Bristol Rovers will be on holidays by the time that game rolls round.

Millwall have a tricky enough run in as well with Swindon a point behind them and two behind Leeds, Leyton Orient and especially Tranmere fighting to stay in the division.
I'm not a betting man but I will say if Leeds don't go up automatically they won't go up. I'm a Leeds supporter but it's arguable that on their form since christmas they don't deserve it and aren't ready for what awaits them. And yet ...if not now -when?

    Point was useless really.

Palace home to WBA and away to Wednesday. Wednesday away to Cardiff and home to Palace. If Palace beat WBA and Wednesday fail to beat Cardiff, it's all over unless Watford lose their last 3 (unlikely).

Otherwise it comes down to last game between Owls and Eagles. Don't see Wednesday winning that in a month of Sundays unless there are some flying about (probably not because of the ash). Rochdale next season looks odds on.

Yeah I'd really thought that they'd turned the corner, not much room for error now. Massive win for Southampton, they'll need 12 points out of 12 to have any chance of the playoffs but three of the matches are at St. Mary's. Their goal difference might prove important.

Why would you be so pessimistic about your chances in that fixture? A home game like a cup final on the last day, would have thought that scenario would give ye a decent chance?

From years of supporting Wednesday. Also Palace are only down there because of the 10pt deduction. In any event it may not matter if Palace beat WBA (who have nothing to play for) at home and Wednesday lose away to promotion chasing Cardiff.

Yeah I know Palace would be safely in mid-table only for the deduction but I still would have thought there'd be a decent chance of beating a mid-table team at home. Hopefully West Brom will get something from Palace anyway and it should set up an interesting final day. It's difficult to see Wednesday winning away to Cardiff but you'd never know.

And then there were 3: Hornets, Eagles and Owls - all creatures that fly. Owls away to the Bluebirds and Hornets home to the Royals. If Wednesday lose then Palace, who play a few days later, have a home game against the Throstles to secure safety. If they don't win it all comes down to the final game at Hillsboro between Palace and Wednesday. Draw is no good at Cardiff due to inferior goal difference to both Watford and Palace. Win or bust unless of course Watford draw and Palace win, then it comes down to between Watford and Wednesday in which case that point might be useful if Watford lose last game and Wednesday win theirs. Ifs and buts.....

He's injured and won't play again until next season. I was at Sheff Utd v Derby in early February and he was playing in that match and was showing decent form around that period. He got injured soon after though, hamstring I think, and Derby's form has dipped big time also. I've a friend that's a DC season ticket holder so I go over a couple of times a year, best fans in the league, if not England I would say. Almost 30,000 for most home games despite struggling badly for the past couple of seasons.

Watched the fizzy league show last night and, some suicidal defending aside, I thought Wednesday gave a decent account of themselves at Cardiff. Am hoping WBA can beat or hold Crispy Phallus on Monday to set up a cup final next weekend.

For my own worries and woes -this time next week Leeds could be out of the 3rd flight if the most optimistic set of results materialise (Leeds win at Charlton and Tranmere beat Millwall). Though it'll most likely be 'as you were' or close enough going into the last game.

WBA have nothing to play for a bit like Reading at Watford yesterday. Hopefully they get a result at Palace on Monday and then it will all come down to the game between the two on Sunday. If not, it will be like travelling over to a funeral next weekend.

Good luck to Leeds. They have been way too long in that division. The support has stayed loyal.

Leeds really need to match Millwall result at the wkd but it won't be easy. Certainly, on paper, Millwall look more likely to take full points from Tranmere than Leeds do from The Valley. If this is the case Leeds will be looking for a favour from Swindon on the final day, not ideal.

I'll try to tune in to some of the game at Selhurst Park tonight, hopefully WBA can do the business.

You're right of course Delorean. Millwall do have the easier assignment on paper. -But lifeguards are given these yokes for a reason

Looks like you get your mexican stand-off Owlsfan. I'm looking forward to it and will indeed be rooting for Wednesday.

I have my own selfish reasons ...in the event Leeds don't make it out of the turd division I'd rather have Palace join us in it -suspecting that, pretty much like Southampton this year, we'll get a 15 point head start on them that will likely come in handy.

Man I love being right! I love it!

Definitely advantage Leeds now. Happy enough with the way things went today. Sounds like Leeds lost to a ridiculous goal to be giving away. Bristol Rovers next Saturday at ER and if Leeds can't win that -they've no business looking to get out of this division.

Delighted for Tranmere Rovers as well. They've a real fighting chance of staying up going into their last game as well.

I hope Leeds go up. One less "big club" in Division One.

Manchester airport was awash with very quiet Liverpool fans on Sunday evening. I met one other Irish Wednesday fan. Young lad. Said it was the worst weekend of his life. In the middle of exams (going badly), Wednesday lose and girlfriend broke it off with him. Told him he hasn't seen anything yet.

Commiserations Owlsfan. Your big challenge next season, aside from those dropping with ye, will come from Southampton -who'd likely be heading back up but for the ten point head start the rest of us were given.

In the interests of keeping the chin up and having a sense of humour about it -we hope to make available a large " Where the f*** is Yeovil?" banner after next weekend? It deserves a new life and new adventures.
