Er, no? Arkaga want more than anyone for football in this country to be run properly. I mean, they stand to LOSE money by their actions here, and they are offering the prize money in total to the players to win it. scrooges

Cup finalists win battle for royalties

Cork City and Longford Town have won their battle to hold onto their share of their royalties from TV revenue and ticket sales at this year's FAI Cup Final.
Represenatives of both clubs went to meet the domestic football committee in Dublin yesterday and were told in no uncertain terms to abide by what they had agreed to in Portmarnock in October. However, in a dramatic turnaround, both clubs were contacted by the FAI not long after the meeting and in reponse to Cork and Longford apparently holding their ground, decided to accede to their demands. A club source at Cork City expressed delight at what they termed a "victory against the FAI"
    FAI RRS?

To everyone in this thread questioning us for the sake of it, you know where you can shove your jealousy

It's clear from that statement that it was a joint Cork-Longford initiative.

I'm not sure how wise it is to be quoted in the press talking about "Victory" over the FAI. Delaney is a petty little Hitler and bears grudges. That quote will come back to bite Cork if he has his way.

"The Football Association of Ireland wishes to refute the suggestion made in today’s edition of the Irish Examiner that it has agreed to withdraw the financial package put in place for the 2007 FAI Ford Cup Final. As far the Football Association of Ireland is concerned the financial package outlined to the four semi-finalists at a meeting on October 10 remains in place. The winners and runners-up of the competition will receive guaranteed payments of €100,000 and €75,000 respectively."

So are CCFC/Longford or the FAI the ones engaged in spin now?

But the powers that be in the F.A.I. can just change the rules again to suit themselves at the next A.G.M.

The FAI tried to renege on their original deal, which they either negotiated in error (their fault) or they panicked about when they considered likely attendance at the final (that's football).

So they are being truthful when they say they're honouring the original deal. It's just that they spent the last week trying to get out of that deal. So it's spin from their side to save face.

It can do one of two things:

    1. It was make people sit up and realise the clubs dont want to get messed about all the time and maybe this will go some way to changing attitudes of the administrators of our league. Something that will benefit everyone

    2. People can bear grudges, and they are acted upon and no one wins as a result. And next time the FAI need to list out X, Y and Z when asked about what they are doing people may be aware of the grudge and lack of cooperation and their list might not carry so much weight.

The thing is, there is no room for grudges in this game as there are so many obstacles there already. If everyone adopts a professional attitude and gets on with the job (god knows there loads of work to do) them we might actually see progress, if not then ..... well, you all know the rest.
The SFAI are the governing body for grassroots football in Ireland, not the FAI. Its success or the lack of is all down to them.

That relates to the outcome, not the quote form Cork which could be considered as triumphalism.

I agree with you 100%. But this is the FAI we're talking about. Since when did they do what was fair and in the interests of Irish football over what was in the interests of their own individual needs, wants and positions...?

or the simple fact that the Examiner have been using the same people as the IFA did with this Eligibility thing and got it spectacularly wrong.

Examiner embarrassing themselves at this stage.
