Well if he does come back to us let's give him a big Belfield welcome home. It might be the best thing that ever happens to us if he comes back. Defense sorted overnight.
College Till I Die
News Just in, from the indo-online:
West Ham have announced that they are releasing 10 senior players, including Paolo Di Canio, Lee Bowyer and Nigel Winterburn. But the Irons have made an offer to Les Ferdinand - one of four players whose contracts had expired. The 10 players being released are Di Canio, Bowyer, Gary Breen, Eduoard Cisse - who has been on loan for a year - Clive Delaney, Izzie Iriekpen, Scott Minto, John Moncur, Raimond van der Gouw and Nigel Winterburn. But the Hammers want to keep Ferdinand, who scored two goals in 14 games after signing from Tottenham in January, and three other players - Scottish Under-21 midfielder David Noble, Eire youth international midfielder Daryl McMahon and England Under-21 keeper Steve Bywater.

College Till I Die
Lads, out of interest, if he came back, would Delaney get paid just as a pro, or would he have to be involved in the college in some way?
(Doing a course or something)
I don't think our board would even consider paying him full-time wages. Being the cheap ba$tards that they are.Originally posted by oddboy

As far as I know he never finished his Accountancy course so he could come back and do that.
And stay out of Bumtown, ya no talent bum.
If Bolton or Kilmarnock (who were interested in him when he went to West Ham) bought him, could we loan him for the summer to keep him match fit? Pay say 20% of his wages? (You can do that sort of thing on CM, so I presume you can do it in real life!).
Defence's not our problem at the moment though...
He won't come back permanently though - he'll get an English or Scottish club. Failing that, Bohs were interested on a professional deal as well.
From the West ham website -
6ft 5ins centre half Clive Delaney arrived during the last transfer window, from University College Dublin in the Eircom League, on a free transfer, and had initial discussions to stay, but, with other clubs interested in him before he came to Upton Park, he should be able to retain his ambition to make it in professional football.
The website also says that Gary Breen was interesting Barcelona and Inter Milan as well though...Don't remember that - is it true?
We could loan him and pay some of his wages, I think. As far as I know a loan is kind of like a transfer. You make a bid and if it's accepted then you offer the player a contract.Originally posted by pineapple stu

Everywhere is our problem at the moment.
We've got an error prone 'keeper (although in fairness he's been our best player this season), a defence that leaks goals, fullbacks and wingers that can't cross, midfielders that don't score or create too many chances, a frontline that can't finish off chances when they do arrive, a board that won't put some money into the team and a squad with no depth (I shudder to think what would happen if we lost Tony Mac).
I'd say he'll stay in England and I'd imagine that going part-time after being full-time (even for four months) would be very hard for him. Anyway we could stick him up front and he'd still score more goals that Gallen.

Apparently.Originally posted by pineapple stu

When Gaz signed for the Hammers he claimed that he'd turned down the aforemention clubs.

Think that has me more confused!!!Originally posted by UCD_4_Life
