If so a life ban would be ludicrously harsh (though for that animal with Benfica the other night on the other hand...) and even a year seems a bit much. Didn't Ray Wilkins throw a ball at the ref in the 86 World Cup? Don't think he had many books thrown in his general direction. A ban of a few months or something like 10-12 games sounds about right to me.Originally Posted by feo123

Yeah he kicked/threw the ball at him and cause him to fall over....however I don't think thats enough to abandon the game...

1 year is extremely harsh. if he attacked the ref thats one thing but for throwing/kicking a ball at him ffs. red card and a 6 game ban would have been loads. ref sounds like a moran tbh abandoning a game because a player threw/kicked a ball at him!*
*granted i don't know the full story but i remember hearing at the time that the game shouldn't have been called off as it wasn't a terribly serious incident

IIRC Eddie Foley was knocked out
A friend of mine headbutted a ref before, breaking his nose and cheek bone. He got a one year ban also, strange that both cases hold the same punishment ?
He's lucky he didn't get three months in the clink for GBH. That is what would have happened to him if he had done that in Scotland.
