    Theorethical question - D1 trophy

Supposing that division one "holds station" right until the last series, e.g. its still Harps 1 point ahead of Cobh, what do they intend to do with the trophy that evening? Cobh kick off in Athlone at 7 and Harps kick off at 7:30 in Kilkenny... if Cobh lost (or drew and left the goal diff. in such a way it'd require an impossible loss for Harps, or similar - which is unlikely as its exactly identical atm and would go to Harps on goals scored) the trophy couldn't be moved from from Lisseywoolen to Buckley in sufficient time really; and having it in Kilkenny would also be a bad idea should Cobh win and Harps draw/lose

Or would there be no presentation of trophies at all that night? I don't think the League would go under for having two sets of "Divison One Champions" signs, etc, mind

I'd say they will have the trophy in Kilkenny if turns out like that. Maybe get a replica trophy to have in Athlone? However I wouldn't be surprised if Shels had a say in all this on Friday.

Does both games not kick off at the same time? I would have thought they would.

Also Dman would be right, AFAIK, the actual trophy will be at Buckley if Harps are still top or Lissy if Cobh are top. A replica will be at the other ground. Is that not what happened last season with Derry and Shels?

Im sure the sign would be least of either teams worries if they were to win the league

When Dundalk last won the League, Derry and Shels also had a shout.

*Derry needed to beat Athlone, and the title was theirs.
*Shels needed to win and for Derry AND Dundalk to lose
*Dundalk needed to beat Galway United and for Derry not to win in Athlone (who were sh!te that year)

And so Athlone beat Derry (or was it a draw???) and Dundalk beat Galway United. The league went to Oriel Park even though the Trophy was in St Mel's waiting for the Derry captain.

The wise old men of Merrion Square placed three different trophies at the the three grounds ...just in case. And just as well.

    Anyone remember the year?

1994/1995 season, Derry drew wth Athlone, Liam Coyle scoring a wonder goal. We went on to win the cup at Lansdowne Road, beating Shels 2-1 to give Dermot O'Neill his first senior medal

I've no idea why I didn't think of replicas (well, I do, I'm wrecked tired).

Master fixtures list I have here has the Harps game at 7:30 and the Cobh game at 7:00; no time on the Harps website and no listing of it on Kilkenny's; Ramblers site hurts my brain and Athlone, erm, don't have a website?

Anyway, Shels making the job easier would be nice; except I'd like to be able to be at the game if Harps win the league, but I just can't make it to Ballybofey these days. Ah well...

Right, my fixtures list is clearly out of date.

Harps' site has the game listed as on Friday, though, so I'm not that bad...

why does the winner of the first div playoff have to play the first game at home.....? should the first div side not get to choose where to play first or a draw be made from a hat? with us having a more games in the season and having come threw a playoff already!!!!!?

In 1998 the proper league trophy was in Dundalk to be presented to Shels. Pats were handed a League of Ireland vs. League of Wales representative trophy. We didn't mind

Can't see there being a problem on the last day of the first division, do they even award trophies in that league

It was 94/95 but weren't Dundalk 3rd going into the final day and needed the 2 others not to win.
Shane Curran saved a last minute penalty from Stuart Gauld in St Mel's to deny Derry the title, as far as I remember it was the first penalty Stuart Gauld had ever missed for Derry!
I phoned the speaking clock to hear a voice speak, it said - "At the tone you will be very much alone"

And then the aftermath where a person who shall remain anonymous came into the home dressing room and said I hope ye rot in the First Division.

Aye 1995 indeed, James Coll lifted a local summer league trophy, there was no replica in Oriel that day. There was a hasty scramble to round up a trophy of some sort

As City Til I Die said, the Athlone players celebrations that day for getting a result in a meaningless match were extremely bizarre, its almost like they had an incentive......

Why? I can't believe that. I'd be very wary about Shels friday night. Should be a good game though, especially the way Ramblers are playing at the moment.

Dermott Keeley isn't exactly Harps biggest fan, I reckon an easy win for Cobh is on the cards.
    Prove me wrong Shels.
