Didn't Bergkamp play in one of the Ajax ones?

EDIT Nope he didn't, just checked it there

EDIT Definite bogey question, just checked the champions league datebase there and there isn't 11 ex-Arsenal players who have played for another team in the final

Yeah, I prefer pnuts too. Joking aside, clearly that guy is a ******, I wouldn't associate myself with him if I were you. What was excuse anyway? 'Oh, but I thought it was funny.' ********. Although in fairness to him the question made me, like Jebus, trawl through the records last night with some great memories flooding back, Dejan Savicevic, oh yes!

Don't think the Champions League started in 1992. Nor 93 for that matter (I seem to remember a particular terrace tune that went "Oh what a night, late November 1993, scum knocked out by Galatasaray")

I'm guessing 94 at the earliest.

started in 1992-1993 season , the group stages just didnt start till later , I remember Rangers came 2nd in a group containing Marseille who went to the final vs Milan by virtue of topping their group

The 91-92 season was the first time a league format was used for the last 8 teams. Group winners (Barcelona & Sampdoria) went through to the Final. Whether it was called European Champions Cup or Champions League or what ever doesnt matter. That was the first season that used a league format.

Twas at the Final meself BTW.

In September 1993 Galatasaray knocked Cork City out of the champions league. City had beaten Cwmbran but lost 2-1 in Istanbul. Should have won in Bishopstown but got caught with a late sucker punch.

Gala had it much easier in the next round in October and early November.

Entry was restricted to the teams that won their national league championships, plus the current European Cup holder. This qualification system continued until 1992. In the 1992–93 season, the tournament was renamed to UEFA Champions League and in 1997/98, eligibility was expanded to include not just domestic champions but also the best performing runners up according to UEFA's coefficient ranking list
