Who won the Canadian Gridball Iron thing anyway...?

The fact that 85,000-odd people turned up for that game shows the power of hype over anything else. How many of them bothered to see the Londan/England Monarchs before the European NFL League went titties-up...? How many of them had even heard of it...?

The English attitude to Gridiron is a lot like the Irish attitude to League football. Cannot be arsed to attend the Eircom League but stage a Premier League game here and you'd stuff the place. The analogy between NFL and World League of American Football and European American Football Leagues are I think apt.

Well you're never going to get the English Premier League in Ireland live in person so get real! And the NFL game was a one off and we in Ireland are so good at turning up for one off events!

    DCFCSteve,

It was a washout, the funniest part for me was seeing a big fat fcupper running onto the pitch, like all the other "athletes" and coming off again 2 mins later. Anyhow enough on how stupid a game it is, but it was a "washout", in more ways than one, even though the commentators tried to make out how packed it was right the way through, nearly half of the people had left by the last quarter due to the rain ( and from reports from the media in america, lots of yanks that flew over stayed in the pub instead of going! ) etc. It put a dampener on things no end, and don't believe the hype that it was a "huge success" it was nothing near it.

    John Terry

Anyway, as was said earlier in the thread, Crowder was joking in the interview so the whole premise of this discussion is false. Hard to believe, I know, I was always told that Americans don't understand this type of humour (or humor)

Here's one of my favourite examples of cultural snobbishness - look how Posh Spice tries to claim comedic superiority over Jon Stewart purely on the basis or their respective nationalities

UEFA and FIFA won't allow that particular idea( English Premier League teams based outside England) so it's dead in the water.
I've been doing my bit as a supporter of our own league for more than 25 years.
As Sunday afternoon at Wembley proved, just because 90,000 people attend something , doesn't actually mean it's any good of a spectacle.
