Do Londoners Speak English?

Miami Dolphins linebacker Channing Crowder has admitted not knowing people speak English in London.

The NFL player might want to check a map to see where he's playing Sunday's prestige game against the New York Giants at Wembley Stadium.

Crowder, who comes from Atlanta in Georgia, may be praised on the field, but confessed geography was not his strong point.

He admitted he did not know until now where London was - or that Londoners spoke English.

"I couldn't find London on a map if they didn't have the names of the countries," he said.

"I swear to God. I don't know what nothing is. I know Italy looks like a boot. I learned that."

Crowder added: "I know (Washington Redskins linebacker) London Fletcher. We did a football camp together. So I know him.

"That's the closest thing I know to London. He's black, so I'm sure he's not from London. I'm sure that's a coincidental name."

The Miami Dolphins are play the New York Giants at Wembley this Sunday in the first NFL regular-season game to be played outside the United States.

He's in for a surprise on his walkabout anyway.

Is there anything to be said for finding a solution to Americans travelling abroad?

There are two players on the New york giants who were born in London. Both of them black.

I dont believe two were born, one grew up in ipswich, not london dodge.

Wikipedia, shcmickipedia, might well be right in this case though. When you say born do you mean hospital or what? He was prolly born and spent his first few days, but I am pretty sure its ipswich he is from.

*relevance to this topic is that the poor girl is trying to explain why a 1/5 Americans cant find their own country on a map.

Oh trust me Owlsfan it is. Think this youtube clip made the rounds over a year ago and she later went on some of the morning shows in the U.S. to explain herself.

Her answer in full to the map question was:
�I personally believe that U.S. Americans are unable to do so because, uhmmm, some people out there in our nation don't have maps and uh, I believe that our, I, education like such as, uh, South Africa, and uh, the Iraq, everywhere like such as, and I believe that they should, uhhh, our education over here in the U.S. should help the U.S., uh, should help South Africa, it should help the Iraq and the Asian countries so we will be able to build up our future, for us.�

Americans are woefully educated about anything outside their own God-fearing little piece of earth. It's embarassing how little they know about anything non-American..

I have personally heard Americans claim that the English language is native to their country, and was created/developed there. Even when subtly promopted about the presence of a place called England and a nation called the English. I jest you not.

A lot of American football players would have gone through college as part of their careers, so it's even more shocking that they appear to have learned so loittle (even if a lot of colleges essentially ignore the grades of their better players).

It's shocking that a people so dim and insular can have so much power and influence in thew world. Scary in fact. Time to spike their water-supplies with contraceptives I believe......!

Most Americans don't know anything about other parts of America if truth be told. They know their own state and that's pretty much it. To answer the Gridiron player's question Do Londoner's speak English? Nah Mate they don't knoworrimean?
