You're not going to get that much activity just from people seeing his odds cut. About 10 people have had really short odds at one point.
If those figures are true, then fair enough it would seem to have a bit more substence than some of the others. Hoping so anyway.

I should have said professional gamblers rather than bookies. This Irish manager market is definetely being manipulated on the exchanges. People are betting emotionally (myself included)a bit like the grand national. And the sharks are pocketing vast sums of money. I will report back later if Houllier says anything about the Ireland job in his interview with Fox soccer. I sent them an email asking them to ask Houllier about his interest in taking the job. The only reply I got back so far was an acknowledgement of email received.

Fox soccer are doing a 2 hour programme starting at 1am Irish time. Houllier is going to be on for about 10 mins sometime in the first hour. Steve McClaren and Roy Millar of the IFA will also be on. I'll be surprised if houllier is not asked about the Ireland job as one of the Fox reporters is Keith Costigan (ex Luton)from Dublin.

Is it possible that it's already been filmed and someone on the crew passed the info on to friends?

Very much so. All filming was done earlier today. That was my initial suspicion when I saw all the money going on Houllier. Its at events like this that people open up . A couple of glasses of vino and Gerard spills the beans!

Houllier might have let it slip that he would really like the Irish job, the FAI would still end up giving it to Venables on twice the salary.

    Errrrrrrrr....

What part am I missing here. Do people on here not know venanoballs has the job? Him and Delaney are closer than Stan and Delaney and its not what you know in this world but who you know.

VENNABLES OUT - May as well start it now rather than in a yeas time when hes as pathetic as he was in his previous jobs.

Are you as sure as you were when you broke the news about Staunton over on Boards 2 years ago? ...that was you wasn't it?
...if so I may just have to lump a hefty sum on him tomorrow

To be honest I resigned myself to Venables weeks ago

any evidence whatsoever to back this up?

i know venables might of been the preferred candidate of delaney 2 months ago, but i doubt they've ever even met.

Houllier prepares to answer Ireland's call
    By Sam Wallace
    Published: 18 January 2008

Gérard Houllier was last night close to agreeing a deal to become the new Republic of Ireland manager. The 60-year-old, who is currently on holiday in America, had been interested in the Newcastle United job, but is expected to agree terms with the Irish FA over the next few days.
The former Liverpool manager has been working for the French federation as their technical director since leaving Lyons last summer having won successive Ligue 1 titles in his two seasons with the club.
Last October he stated his desire to return to international management – he was in charge of France during their unsuccessful attempt to qualify for the 1994 World Cup.
The Irish Under-21 manager Don Givens and the former England coach Don Howe were charged with recruiting Steve Staunton's replacement after his reign ended following the disappointing Euro 2008 qualifying campaign

    Irish FA?
    On holidays in America?
Did he state a desire to return to international management last year?

Daily Mail saying Houllier is the candidate

Irish eyes are smiling on Houllier
    By COLIN YOUN
Last updated at 23:36pm on 17th January 2008

Gerard Houllier emerged on Thursday night as a shock contender for the vacant Republic of Ireland job as the Football Association of Ireland narrow their search for a new coach.

After Reading manager Steve Coppell ruled himself out of contention, the FAI have earmarked the former Liverpool and Lyon boss as a strong candidate to lead their World Cup 2010 campaign.

Houllier, linked with the Newcastle job this week, has met the FAI's three-man management committee and they would like to discuss the vacancy again before making a final recommendation.

Ex-England coach Terry Venables is still the favourite and could be in place next week. But Houllier is an impressive rival with experience and coaching know-how.

Ireland have [Brazil in] Croke Park next month and would prefer to have Steve Staunton's successor in place for that game, but the FAI insist they will not be rushed into an appointment.

They are still keen to talk to former Newcastle manager Sam Allardyce, but ex-Leeds boss David O'Leary said he had rejected an interview because he wants to return to club management.

These are the people from Fox soccer that can ask Houllier today if is he going to take the Ireland job. Please email all 3.
    http://community.foxsports.com/profi...spx?un=keith03
    http://community.foxsports.com/profi...n=Nick_Webster
    http://community.foxsports.com/profi...n=BobbyMcMahon

You must first register with Foxsoccer or MSN to be able to send an email. Webster is the head honcho at Fox soccer. Costigan is originally from Dublin. And McMahon is at the conference asking the questions. It won't take many emails asking the same thing to get them to ask the Houllier the question we all want answered.

got this from a pool fan:

"are they mad? Any Liverpool player that did well under him did so in spite of his inability to coach not because he was a good coach, owen was a mess when he left, fowler was ridiculously bad (and fat). The first three seasons he had a really good first team coach, Brugges, when he left, pool went progressively down hill for 2 years. Football and tactics were always rubbish and boring but the players, were playing well individually and were in good shape for those three full seasons, 99/00, 00/01 and 01/02. and he is a very poor judge players, and refuses to accept any portion of blame – it would be a nightmare! I’d hope Houghton would stamp his feet and kick and scream if the other two went for him. Anyway they’re sayin tel again on the radio this morning. Who I would def prefer.

I honestly cant see what houllier has ever done, maybe I’m wrong tho. When france failed to qualify for the world cup in 94, cos Bulgaria (or hungary or someone) equalised in the last minute, he said it was all ginola’s fault for giving the ball away…. Not the fact that they were a goal away from being knocked out after 16 games of league competition…..what a ********…”rigobert song – eat the grass.” Can you imagine what we’d have to listen to? – all over again! Actually I’d prefer Staunton and frank stapleton as joint-managers teaming up than houllier taking over. Rant over! "
