Well some of the kids that Staunton didn't even have ANY experience, let alone international experience.

a colleague of mine here with a relation on the Board of Management has said that Houillier has been approached and is willing to accept the job. A blatant rumour but its what I've been told

Please let your rumopur be true!!! Like him or not he is easily the highest calibre of manager that has stated he wants the Irish job , plus he has experienced success very recently. id take him in a flash and would like if he could get someone like Houghton on board as his assistant

I backed Houllier at 40/1. Not because I want Houllier as manager ( I don't) but because I believed that Delaney would go for someone like him. I can't see him commanding the respect of our current squad for an entire campaign.

    Worth checking this out

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gerard_Houllier

    Especially this bit
On 25th of October, he reported that he would wanted to be in contention to get an International job so reported that he would like to get the Ireland job. The FAI have now put him in the top list for the next managerial job, but he is quoted as saying "I am too good for that job.
Too good for is....well thats a lovely attitude

I don't know how I feel about it tbh although I'm sure I've said elsewhere that I'd be happy for it.

As for the Wikipedia references, I wouldn't be bothered by them and they do seem to be unsubstantiated.

I believe Houillier would be respected by the vast majority of the squad but I don't believe he would pander to larger ego's in the squad either.
I'd take him ahead of O'Leary, Souness, Venables, Robson, Dalglish, Atkinson, of that much I'm certain. Who would come in on his ticket would be interesting. As I said before, why Heighway (or even more so, Kerr) hasn't been approached for the Under21 gig I'll never know.
Here they come! It’s the charge of the “Thanks” Brigade!

I'm torn between the relation of someone's work colleague and an uncited wikipedia reference. Who can I trust at a time like this

Can someone just fill in this blank for me: I should put all my money on ________ to be the next Ireland manager.

That's fair enough Jerry and I can understand the skepticism, and I even asked a mod before posting what I did. Usually I wouldn't take much heed in passerby comments but this guy I work I've known for a while and know he has a relative on the FAI BOm so for him to say it to me made me take notice.

Having said that it probably won't happen making me look like a bigger plank.

For what it's worth, I think there's a lot more substance in what you've been told than the bit that some randomer put up on wikipedia . Especially when the FAI are notorious for putting out leaks and will want to assess the public mood on any prospective candidate.

Here's the full sentence (in bold) that was added by whoever put up the "too good for that job" quote (later edited to what's there now).

The FAI have now put him in the top list for the next managerial job, but he is quoted as saying "I am too good for that job", which in all honesty is true because Houllier is the greatest of all time and the Ireland Job is about as big as a tesco job.

It should be removed unless someone can come up with a better source than "he is quoted as saying".

There is no source for that not even from a source close to Houllier but there is report from a close source to Houllier that he has expressed interest in the Irish job.

He has only just again taken up the his old post of National Technical Director with the French FF.

Keys said he had news about two managerial appointments, one was Ruud Gullet to LA Galaxy, the other concerned Houllier. He was making it sound like Houllier had got the job but in the end it seems he is just at the top of the FAIs list

If Houllier has been approached and is interested then he is a cert for the job. I hated the way his Liverpool teams played football. But then again I hated the way Boro played under Charlton. But a winning Irish team trumps all my purist bull****!

My rumour barometer is Paddy Power, still at 5/2, unchanged.

I can sleep sound though with Houllier rumours looming larger.

Maybe Eirebhoy is right, they just report what they read in the papers, and someone just read Kingdoms post here.
