i reckon finnan could on for longer than the 2010 world cup. he isn't particularly pacy so he probably won't miss it (besides his positioning is generally excellent). Only fear is that he may retire from internationals, though he has thus far been quite dedicated to the cause.

Stephen Carr was as good a full back as Steve Finnan, but he never came back the same player after his knee injury. He was asked out of retirement by Steve Staunton

I like high energy football. A little bit rock and roll. Many finishes instead of waiting for the perfect one.

I never bother researching facts for things like this but I would take a stab at - age 29 and Kerr.

I seem to remember thinking - 'thats horrid young to retire from your country - Carr you little let down shyte' and then 'sure the sterility of the Kerr set-up must have been one of the main reasons'.
    The dude abides....

Many a players career has ended at Newcastle. Large wages & low expectations.

I thought Carr retired a few years ago from International football?

I don't believe he ever came out of retirement. Never seen him in a game.

Shame really cos I thought around 2000 that he would be really deadly for us , never quite worked out since then , injuries ruined him

He was shocking against Denmark. Our worst player in that game.

Nah, Dunphy would have pointed the finger at Delaney's choice of Staunton as the reason we're losing this fine servant of Irish football, who's going to be a major loss to whoever next manages Ireland.
