There was 6000+ there tonight. I didn't think that it would get a great crowd but I'd say there was more there tonight than at the Bowez match.
Just for any fans who may be abroad somewhere just to let you know City and Waterford drew 1-1.Waterford deserved there point at least creating the best chances during the game.On another night i would criticise City for not playing well but without a creative player in the centre of the park for us its like a body trying to function without a brain. If we had this player our game would click into play a lot faster and then we would see the real City.Instead we have players all over the park(especially Dan Murray) trying to do this job and City look poor for it.
I thought Kevin Doyle did very well tonight running at players and as i mentioned before is getting better each game.O Grady(invisible man)was poor again tonight.Woods had a decent enough game but every time he got the ball across Citys front two were arriving late in the box, mainly i reckon because they were pushing back on top of there own players to often to get some decent ball that was not being passed to them. They both did well under the circumstances.Murray,Hoggy as usual were solid.Hedderman had quiet a good game too.I noticed he always plays the ball to feet so he is a good footballer at least.
There was at least 5,000 there again tonight with an average size crowd up from Waterford. There cant have been more than 250?.When we play down Waterford i would expect up to 1,000 to get down there from City.
On Waterfords performance i thought they played well at times.I can see how there keeper got a call up to the Irish 21's team.Even though he was not to busy he dealth with everything comfortably enough and almost saved Flynnies penalty.Alan Reilly looked impressive on the right side for them and overall they are a good side who on this form should have no problem (at least)staying up.This is not meant as a patronising comment for any Waterford fans reading this because you do have a handy side.

Wouldnt agree totally as in the first half waaaterferd, their centre halves in particular didnt seem to want any else other than a 0-0 draw. City had all the ball but no brains as you said and with just one good midfielder (go home O Grady) we would have had the chances we deserved with all that possesion. Having said that how did we give them so many shots on goal? They were pretty limited but instead Bennet and Murray start dancing around the box gifting opportunites. Other strikers would have buried us.
i wouldn't say we we're robbed, but we would have taken a drwa. but as it turned out , city were ****e against ten of us. we could have snuck it, but i'll settle for a draw
Ceci n'est pas une signature
No sign of Gaz during the prematch or on the bench.
O'Grady was absolute sh*te.
Devine should have stopped the goal. He did make 2 really good saves though.
Dan, Hedderman were good, Benno was excellent, Hoggie very good.
Greg played well, Billy, Doyler made the effort and Billy was unlucky not to score one.
John looks tired to me.
George was moaning and complaining again, and I really think it takes away from his game.
I reckon the J O'F free and the penalty were the only attempts on target. The amount of over the bars, wides and straight to the keeper was unreal.
I was dissappointed not to get the 3 points, cos we are abetter team, but if Waterfords forwards were a bit sharper, they would have scored at least 3, so the point was ok.
Still, it's games like this we should be winning.
Waterford have got 7 points away from home already. Pretty good stuff.
RTE1 did commentary on the radio & sounded like a great atmosphere but people there say not so good. Maybe cos Eoin hand & Grabiel Egan were in the stand it sounded good. They seemed to think it was an entertaining game & were full of praise for the 2 O's as they called them although that nighgt be for their seasons efforts as opposed to last night.
Disappointed with the result, however I think a draw was a fair result. O'grady was once again poor, we need alot more creativity in the middle of the park. I just hope Dolan has realised this and will sign someone sooner rather than later.
During the 2nd half the passing was sometimes excellent with a good few passes been exchanged (one two's etc) however city then always gave the ball away with a stupid pass rather to use the simple pass....But I can see with a bit more time and with a few better players (especially in the middle) will solve this problem.
The postives from the game was definately doyle, he looks like he can become a very good player, all he really needs is a couple of goals to make his confidence grow even more.
Our central midfield is seriously lacking a bit of creativity, thought Doyle had an excellent 1st half, running at the opposition, impressed with Hedderman, trys to play the ball on the ground, always looking for a man. Devine got caught badly for the goal. Waterford came looking for a draw and got it.
Ohhh thought the first half was very poor and the Waterford goal livened up the game no end. Devine was badly cought for that and he also made a bad mistake in the secont half when he miscontroled the ball outside the area.
Thought Doyle was excellent - very good close control and excellent balance. Maybe he should be moved inside to central midfield instead of O'Grady who was awful. I also thought Woods was poor last night too. Not impressed by him at all. The atmosphere as good last night and the Shed made lots of noise esp sustained Rebel Army Chants.
Conclusion: we need something creative in midfield

Blowing Bubbles
1-1 was a fair result. The singing in the shed is defiantly getting much better.Good waterford support . looking forward to the away game in july
It looked to me like our biggest crowd of the season. I'd say there was more like 6,000. Great to see.Originally posted by RedX

I thought Dan was pretty poor myself. He is usually quite a consistant player but last night he gave the ball away and his first touch was not as good as usual. Bennett is still not a centre-half for me. Hedderman did well I thought.
Another poor game from Woods and O'Grady. And the amount of shots over the bar from City was unreal. They had chances in the first half and could have got more from the game if they had taken those chances.
In the end a fair result but the ref didn't help matter at times.
it was brutal .....

I'd like us to experment with George playing in midfield with John and CP up front but I dont think George would have much to the defensive side of his game.
I'd like to see Hoggie go back to left back with Carey on at right back and Hedderman on the left wing, might be the kick in the arse Woods need
Oh no not them again
Why is it that wood's cant stay on the wing. He keeps going in field. I think Dolan needs too find some1 to replace him or else tell him to cop on. He keeps doing his own thing. The match last nite was poor but hopefully things will pick up for the game on Monday amd that we will thrash Cobh.
Are people just critisicing Billy for the sake of it now or what? I thought he had a good game, got on the ball created things and got into 3 or 4 good positions for attempts on goal. Doyles performance was the big positive. If you want to talk about who was poor, conor was awful, his decision-making is very suspect. I also thought George had a poor game. I'm dissapointed because it was the type of game we need to be winning but its still been a very good start to the season.
Waterford unlucky to draw derby
Cork City 1-1 Waterford United
It took a controversial penalty to deny Waterford united a famous win over Cork City in the first Munster derby for five years at Turner’s Cross.
Waterford had to play the final 25-minutes with just ten-men after inspirational centre back David Breen was dismissed for a foul on John O’Flynn as he was about to score. The referee pointed to the spot and reached for his red card, much to the disgust of the travelling support who felt the defender was harshly treated.
Dan O’Connor brilliantly deflected O’Flynn’s spot kick onto the crossbar but was helpless as the striker headed the rebound home.
Waterford had taken the lead in fortunate circumstances on 52-minutes. Billy Woods handled carelessly out near the sideline and Waterford were awarded a free kick, which Alan Reilly took. His left footed effort deceived Michael Devine in the Cork goal and sailed over his head into the net for a deserved if somewhat fortunate lead. That goal upped the tempo of what had been a fairly disappointing game to that point.
Despite their numerical advantage, Cork were on the back foot for the last quarter as jimmy McGeogh’s men went for the win. Reilly fired a shot, which Devine did well to save, and substitute Cosgrove had a great chance but blazed over.
Cork City – Devine, Hourigan (Carey 80), Bennett, Murray, Hedderman (Behan (90), Doyle (CP O’Brien 86), O’Grady, O’Halloran, Woods, O’Callaghan, Flynn.
Waterford United – Connor, Hughes, Breen, Byrne, Frost, O’Brien, Clifford, Mulcahy, Reilly (Cosgrove 84), Sullivan (Murphy 76), Waters.
Referee – D McKeon (Dublin)

I'd agree withthat. I thought Billy played quite well. A foot more to his left and his header would have put us one up after 4 minutes.Originally posted by Corkman

It would have been a very different game then.
Every season, City have a few games at the cross where we just cannot score from play, no matter how many chances we create.
It was one of those games, and while it is true to say we could have been beaten by a few from those last few chances for Waterford, we could just as easily won by a few from our own chances.
It could have gone either way like you said but the fact is there are one or two players who have not made the best of starts to the season and considering they both play close to each other on the pitch, it is leaving quite a big hole to fill.
jesus our set pieces are brutal. woods wasn't too bad this time and george was his typical vainglorious self. can someone tell o'callaghan to be more of a team player and look for the simple pass?
btw who was the baldy waterford centre half- the man was a nut, kicking lumps out of o'flynn at every oppurtunity.
waterford should have won against a very poor city. our lack of creativity is really killing us. that's 5 points dropped in the last two games we should have picked up. i wory for us in the next two games. we know we are better than derry and as good as shels but our lack of nuance in the midfield and the odd laspe by devine worries me. that game against dery is must win
aslo can some one other than o'flynn and o'callaghan start scoring goals. i thought doyle was supposed to weigh in with a few? he looks really hesitant
waterford have some good forwards that blonde number 10 and the alan reilly goal looked excellant.
the juries still out on city. we still look really fragile and a complete collaspe wouldn't surprise me if dolan doesn't sort things out. at the moment we have too many gaps to fill at defence, central midfield and the wings
john flynn? - awesome!!!!!!
