Robson's contract was for 2 years AFAIR, so not sacking him at the moment makes no real difference, it would be finished soon anyway. I'd imagine (hope?) he'll be involved in the recruitment process for the new manager, but I do wonder what his opinion of the FAI, and Delaney in particular, is after all of this. Or if said opinion will ever make it into the public domain.

If one were of a cynical disposition, might one not suspect that Delaney is carefully distancing himself from the next appointment, just in case they select another "Delaney's Donkey" like Stan?

And if one were especially cynical, one might also imagine that if instead this Consultant should actually produce a "thoroughbred", that his role will be conveniently "forgotten", whilst Delaney basks in the reflected glow of future successes?

No, it would be a terrible man who would even think it, it really would...

There's a shortage of personnel of a technical nature at international level. The Under 21's have an away game in Montenegro which will be handled by the assistant Under 21 Manager, while the Under 21 Manager will be in a caretaker capacity with the Senior International team in Cardiff. I think Bobby Robson might be an extra pair of hands with the seniors so to speak. And he was deciding to review his own position at the end of the campaign it would have been silly to let him go at this stage as he may prove useful in preparations for the game against Wales.

Yeah its called politeness just cause you are sacking somebody or not reknewing their contract does not mean you cannot say thanks. I woudl say to Stan thanks Stan, pity it did not work out and best of luck in your future career.

Maybe they are keeping Bobby to lure in his old chum Jose

If that were true and worked out, Bobby would have earned every penny he has been paid, for the past two years sick leave or no sick leave. And if Jose turned our fortunes around with some of the slackers we have in the squad he'd prove he is still the SPECIAL ONE, big style.

Get real Neil. If Stan had any decency he'd have resigned after the Cyprus game or the San Marino game. I lost a lot of respect for the guy over his stubborn refusal to to acknowledge the obvious truth - that the fans wanted him out.

To be fair to Stan but San Marino caused problems as the group progressed

He should have resigned after the friendly against Holland.

I am real, he should have resigned I agree but I would not blame him for not going by his own accord as he thought he could do a good job.

Nothing wrong with saying thanks and good luck and bye.

Just manners I suppose. He is gone, I dont hold any bad feeling towards him now, negative thoughts will not get me anywhere and I would rather look at the positives and the future. The past cannot be changed.

Just wondering does the senior international manager have input as to who is under age managers for the country??

Surely they should so they could monitor how players are progressing through their selected coaches

I don't know about here but definately not in England. Under 21 managers are contracted. Don't know about any level after that.

I lumped on Robson at 25-1 to be the football consultant with Paddy Power last night. Now 12-1, which has to be good.

We are paying him already. He knows the international game inside out.

Your one bet would have cut the odds in a market like that.
