Can anybody help us by telling how the new Ireland Republic 3rd division in 2008 will look like?
EVERYTHING is black and white
Thats just textbook................
I think it will also be populated with the reserve teams of Premier teams.
Always look on the bright side of life
OK but nothing is known by now?
will it be an all-Ireland league?
does anybody have the whole list of applicants?
and what will be the format? two parallel divisions?
and what at the moment is the third level in ireland ( the 3 intermediate leagues?)
outside of the eircom league proposals document (see pages 9&10 in particular) there is no more current info in the public domain
no, same as eLoI
the FAI presumably but can't find it anywhere else.
either 2, 3 or 4 regionalised divisions (depending on the number of accepted teams). apparently all premier division teams are obliged to enter a (reserve) team, first division teams are encouraged and then some outside teams like those listed above will be invited also. supposedly the winners of each section (or highest placed non-reserve team) play off against each other with the winner then playing a 2 legged play-off against the bottom team in the first division. if they win this they enter the first division provided they meet licensing requirements.
there is no 3rd level as such at the moment. while the next level after the first division would be the intermediate leagues there is no link or route into the eL from the intermediate leagues, teams currently have to apply for entry into the eLoI when a team is thrown out or leave of their own accord.
the A championship league will in essence be the 3rd tier of senior soccer. An U20 league will replace the existing U21 league. teams in the premier division will be required to have 3 teams, prem div team, A championship team and u20 team. how feasible this is remains to be seen!!
