I like high energy football. A little bit rock and roll. Many finishes instead of waiting for the perfect one.

Announced his retirement at the end of the season today: http://www.burnleyfootballclub.com/n...t-2460678.aspx
Only 23 international calls, I thought he had way more, but he was injured for several protracted spells. Still think the partnership between him and Whelan at the beginning of Trapattoni's reign could have developed into something special

    We could have been contenders.

A very good player who never reached his full potential due to injuries.

He deserves great credit for having had such a good career despite those injuries.

He was the No. 1 on the team sheet I suspect during the early days of Trap's reign but his downward spiral thereafter can't be blamed on Trap but on injury. Looking at his Wikipedia page, I never knew he played for England at Junior level.

He's articulate and I wonder will be go in to coaching. Best of luck to him and one of our many top players whose career was blighted by injury.

I think he and Andrews will do well for themselves in the future. Kilbane is already doing well in the media as are Cunningham and Sadlier. Arguably Hunt too. A good vintage of decent, smart and capable people.

Yes. And Mark Lawrenson and Gary Townsend are proud to be Irish and Ireland internationals depending on what studio they are in....

Reid is a good lad, honest pro. I knew before he was close to his Jamaican & Irish heritage. Enjoy his and Ian Rush's articles about Ireland. But I don't agree with using him or his article just to score brownie points (for the 4th or 5th time).

so he mentions Irish heritage in an article and he's doing it for brownie points, and if he didn't mention in it an article, then he's embarrassed by them?

Good article here by him on his careers, injuries and the fear about the end of his playing days. But is it any different from someone in their own job outside of football. They're soon forgotten once they close the door behind them for the last time (albeit without the previous adulation).
