Sneak preview of Sunday's papers:
The Majority of the committee want him out, and believe he will resign with a golden handshake of €400-500K. Sacking him may cost €750K.

This appeared to be the most substantial Steve Staunton thread, so maybe you can change the title if you wish, Tets. I considered putting it in the former players thread but a 100+ cap player and former manager surely merits his own.
Anyway, I enjoyed this piece from The Opel Jersey website - http://opeljersey.com/new-blog/2017/...-of-our-greats
I remember Stan the player and his great left foot . I remember how he played in a number of positions for us and alway gave his best .
A great Player for us and we should always remember that .
Have we ever had a better passer of the ball in our defence .

Just came across this while looking at something else .

not too shabby.......
So, he's not gone yet, as in dead and gone?
Just a resurrection of an old thread.
I'm going to say it....I thought he was toxic at centre-half for us, and if Keane was in central midfield he wouldn't have started in the world cup, with Cunningham playing instead. His reward for the leadership and support he showed to Mick Mac was the captaincy and a central defence position.
Here they come! It’s the charge of the “Thanks” Brigade!

None of them could pass the ball as far as Big Mick.
I would say that Staunton as a passer was better than all of the above....Its all a matter of opinion .
Jack Charlton was not exactly in favour of passing from the back.....which was when Staunton was at his best so we did not see the best of him in that respect at that time.
At his peak for liverpool he was an outstanding passer of the ball .

Or the big Ron classic "he can trap a ball farther than i can kick it"
