It proves Sunderland's defence is bad but its not as bad as it was with McShane in it.

Read what you actually said though my friend (ignoring the typo):

    McShane and Miller start today.

I hope McShane's lack of pace and limited first team match practice isn't badly exposed by the 3 strikers.
I'm not sure if he starts a RB or CB though.

Is he playing at RB or CB?
I just saw the lineup on Sportinglife and the way the team is listed it looks like RB and that Reid has been shunted out to LMF to accomodate Miller in CMF, which is a not what we need if we want Reid to develop his skills as a CMF playmaker.

However, sometimes Sportinglife write the lineups in a bit of a random order. If I knew a bit more about their non-Irish players and where they normally play then I could figure it out .

Mc Shane and Miller were atrocious probably the two worst players on the pitch. How Mc Shane lasted so long I dont know. Murphy wasnt much better.

Felt sorry for McShane. He really tried hard but very little came off. They weren't the worst players though. That honour belonged to Geremi who was brutal.

He was terrible. Everything went wrong for him, passing, positional sense, pace etc etc. Replaced by Ian Harte just prove how bad he was. Not an International player imo. I can’t fault his effort but I have really only seen him play a handful of games where he came out with any sort of credit.Same applied to Miller and Murphy. Reid was his usual industrious self and Duff looked good for the twenty minutes or so he played.

Yup, he came up trumps today for me.
Was going to bet on Sunderland not to loose, but when I heard that Evans and Bardsley were out and McShane was in I stuck £30 on Newcastle..

McShane is out of his depth in the premiership most likely will be sold in the summer to a Championship side...

Hopefully this performance added to countless other inept performances for Sunderland will once and for all put an end to the Paul McShane jizzfest, that started thanks to one decent performance, against the Czechs. Dunne and O'Shea (much as I dislike him) is the only viable central defensive partnership. After that, we're in trouble.

I think this brings into question as to why the likes of McShane are being selected ahead of more talented players available to Ireland, perhaps a certain Mr DG, could answer that!

How on earth has said DG held onto his job for so long? Year after year of sh!te, when other underage teams have done so well, it beggers belief.

Watched the Sunderland game yesterday and thought they were very poor. McShane and Miller were both woeful, Andy Reid played as well as any Sunderland player.

I think they have enough points to stay up this season and will pick up a few more against Boro and Bolton but they need to get in a few more players for next season.

On a side note, I thought Newcastle were ok and will be in the same mid-table position next season. Owen's post match interview was terrible. It is so obvious that he is not commited to Newcastle and he will be gone with the first good offer.

How in the name of all that's sacred is this man being paid to play football??? He's the worst player I've seen since Lee Chapman.. I watched the Newcastle game and he is terrible. So bad.. I think Keano is losing it..

Jaysus lads talk about extreme opinions - he's either the next Paul McGrath or the next Paul Butler. Come on, it's blatently obvious that the guy is at a real low ebb at the moment, I watched the game and would agree that he was very poor but this does happen when you haven't played a game in a long time and are low on confidence (not to mention playing out of position)
I think people are forgetting that he's a young, inexperienced centre-half that is playing his first season in the top flight and, given our complete lack of depth in that position, I'm not willing to write him off just yet. Some of the comments on here are just ridiculous ("He's the worst player I've seen since Lee Chapman")

Granted he's not as good a player as Evans but then again Evans would walk into our starting line-up ahead of any of our alternatives aswell...

McShane was shocking against newcastle, in fact its been a long time since i seen a defender play as bad...apart from John O shea of course who is consistently shocking.

Mind you, Stephen Kelly wasnt much better against villa, ashley young took him to the cleaners at will.

Pray Finann returns to help out Richard Dunne or we have no chance in qualification in our group.
