I think his performances against Koller and Berbatov show that his height won't be a problem. It's the small, speedy players that'll trouble him.
Yea, but hes been FIFA world player of the year, and won the world cup. Paul McShane hasn't. Nor will he
You can play at centre back under 6'0, but you can drive a car with your feet, doesn't make it a good idea. Hans Segers was 5'11 and did well in goal, doesn't mean its to be recommended.

McShane was beaten for pace by Koller, forget height. He is not premier league standard, nor will he be.
"No regrets, none at all. My only regret is that we went out on penalties. That's my only regret. But no, no regrets." -Mick McCarthy
Was just about to bring up Cannavaro.
Height is a key attribute for a centre-half, but not necessarily an essential one if you can jump well and you've got good timing.
McShane is a good player now and will only get better.
There are real, legitimate problems with the Irish setup right now, but McShane isn't one of them.
kingdom, why quote it then?!

I honestly don't see how the site would be in trouble for the opinion of one of its members.
If that's legally the case, we're getting into some very sketchy big brother ****...

please tell me that it is a modified car...otherwise you are only boasting as to how you would reach the accelerator and clutch
Bring back the plank
You can't spell failure without FAI
I find it very hard to believe that a public internet forum could be the source of a negative case due to the soft statement that I made above. I asked the question just to find out whether its true or not as I couldnt believe I hadnt heard of it previously.
If it is true I couldnt care less but perhaps my post was ill-advised so I'll say no more on the matter and sorry if anyones offended-didnt mean anything just curious!
I
today again at times he was too quick to jump in, needs to be more level headed and to start reading the game a little better. I would also portion some of the blame on him for milners goal, if yer not going to make it dont go for it, he put everyone else off with his fresh air attempt. I think he should have got some clearance on it as well, first player to cut that ball out. thats a few times this year that he has been at fault ( not necessarily solely his fault though... ). Harte against City, its becoming an Irish thing.

McShane: 6'0"?
Where did you get that info?
I seriously doubt he is 6 foot, looks 5'11 at the most, probably more like 5'10 1/2. Decent player with good attitude but I don't think he is ever going to be the player some people think he is going to be, his mental side of the game may improve but his height or pace won't, unless we pump him full of growth hormones and steroids
I don't see why people are complaing about McShane. Richard Dunne is our best centre half - no question. Andy O'Brien or Joey O'Brien aren't great players. The only player we have who might be better than McShane at that position is John O'Shea, but he is capable of playing left back, right back, and centre mid. When fit, this is Ireland's best team now that Stephen Carr has retired. I really think this should be the team heading into the next qualifying campaign.

That's not a bad team really.....
And the performance i have been waiting for arrives. He was dreadful all round, and seemed to be heavily invoved in every mistake our defence made. Bring back Andy O'Brien
Personally i would prefer if O'Shea partnered Dunne. But i really wish our squad could have the attitude of McShane. It is obvious that he would put his head on the line for Ireland.
