    Angry Just so disappointed

Hi lads I have as we all have followed this campaign hoping and praying we would qualify for Euro 2008, watching our performances we have just not been good enough. I live in England and the slagging I have had over the past 3-4 weeks has been awful to take as I have no come back. What is the state of Irish sport at the moment our football team, rugby team and to cap it off our under 21s who we destroyed by England last night has left me speechless. The problem is it’s the truth we are not the team we once were, the team who are up and coming are not as good as they once were. Are we living on past glories and performances? I am an Irish fan and not to have my team in another major tournament next year is honestly devastating as I get to hear all the English lads scream there team on year after year where I have another empty summer with some more qualifiers to look forward to (or dread). It’s a bitter pill to swallow and I’m not dealing with it well. GUTTED watching a meaningless game against Cypress

We have the players, but not the coach.
Give a half decent manager this squad and pick a team, something along these lines
    Given
    Finnan
    Dunne
    McShane
    O'Brien
    Hunt/McGeady
    Reid
    Reid
    Duff
    Keane/Long
    Doyle/Long

Give that team a right go at the WC with a good manager and we have a shot. But not with Stan "The Gaffa" Staunton

So O'Brien at left full? Andy? Alan? Joey? None of them have ever played there.
Stephen Hunt stands on his right foot, and you'd play him out of position on the right?
Long isn't ahead of Doyle at club level, why should he be ahead of him at international level?

me too. and even my daughter's irish rugby shirt attracts ridicule over here now too. I can't even use the line "the future's bright" after Turners Cross last night.

    Miserable, London.

Damn thats a tough one, explain to her that England are hated all over Europe and your kids would be safer wearing an Irish top if they were in a foreign country than an English top, make it sound like she is putting her kids lives in danger by buying them an English top

The real depression will kick in when the tournament starts. Watching sides we know we could and would beat with a proper manager. Duff would have been back. Friendlies to look forward to before the tourney. Mad travel plans. New players would have emerged proving themselves when it really mattered. Instead we have Stan!

i agree to some extent with what ur saying in that it has been guttin to watch - but i do believe we have the players - players that under the right management and administration(delaney take note) we could be paving the way for future qualification and success

Agree and know wat makes it even worse is that you think that the world cup is another two years away, and we'l not be goin there either as long as stans in charge.

Don't worry too much, my two children used to wear England jersies, but without any pressure or persuasion from me, they now only wear the Green (or White Away Shirt )...............taking them on a weekend trip to Paris in 2004 may have helped!
