i thought i read somewhere that he might have been... ahem... hugged a little bit too much when he was a kid?
I like high energy football. A little bit rock and roll. Many finishes instead of waiting for the perfect one.

Usual hyperbole, baiting rant from Dunphy. Entertaining but totally useless in terms of real analysis.

Gibson didn't exactly set the world on fire but he did nowt wrong and we got three points from playing badly. Considering the numerous positives the panel could've focused on, it's fairly crass just to bang their collective shoe on the table.

This is someone who dismissed Bayern Munich as a rubbish side last summer, for the crime of not making the CL last year.

Maybe he should go work for Bulgarian tv. They've played 3 games, and haven't won yet. We've played 3 and won 2, with the least goals conceded.

There must be a vacancy there for him to fill.

Dunphy fans the flames purely to line his pocket, It was clever business back in 1990 with Jack Charlton, He got what he achieved notoriety, but nowadays its just the rantings of an old man - not really worth a discussion.

Didn't hear him but was at the game and Gibson defo should not have been in there, Trap knows his stuff and im happy, but if Gibson starts next day out then i will be baffled. Work rate in the middle is not the only thing your judged on its a key position and he isn't up to it at this stage, i don't give a flying F**k what S Ireland did done said i would be in his office now talking him into playing again, with a decent midfield we could be really good. Centre Mid both them are dung IMO.

dunphy last night - this is not a well coached team, what are they doing out in malahide. if someone like mcshane cant take a simple throw in they aint much anyone can do about things like that. u dont need much coaching for that. most night he aint far off but last night he was talking rubbish.

I thought the structure and the play from 8 off the 10 outfield players was very good, and i have always wanted Aiden to prove me wrong in a green shirt and he is now doing that which is great, duff and him look very good as did keane and doyle and the back 5 were fairly solid, but the midfield was out of character with the other men on the pitch. In Gibson defence he is only 20 and its not his fault if he is picked but hopefully thats his last game for a while, we need experince and a bit of know how in the middle. No way Trap will start with same midfield for next game, i have faith in Trap (he knows his stuff!!), with a good centre mid we would be laughing IMO.

I think every campaign dunphy sits down and thinks, "ok what points am i going to harp on about for this campaign". Ill give out about duff and go on about how he doesnt have it any more. even before he is given a chance to prove himself again. Ill give out sh#t about glen whelan even before he has a chance to prove himself. Ill say this is an easy group and ireland should qualify easily.(if i had a penny) The other teams are useless.

He is entertaining but god he lets his emotions get the better of him and says vendictive stuff that isnt waranted. He looks to criticize the manager after one below par performance from only 2 or 3 players. Im not saying i agree with the team selection but i do believe i have seen enough to trust this manager. Which is the way giles is thinking. We played below what we can and still got the result, before we would have drawn or lost.

I seem to remember the last time we got to the world cup we had some very lucky results.

What did people think of Giles comments about Tony O D. I thought Tony was over playing the negative mood in the camp and as the panel rightly pointed out that any player left out should be a bit annoyed an its natural. I thought that Tony got the balance of his report wrong last night before the game.

You obviously don't listen to him most nights. Very seldom gets anything right. As someone said, he is there to be controversial, picks a topic and harps on about it ad nauseum and here we all are talking about him. So he has succeeded yet again
Forget about the performance or entertainment. It's only the result that matters.

Giles got very insulted last night when he was basically accused by Dunphy of backing off and not criticising Trap. Could be another falling out again.

Surprised there are so many people still gulled by Dunphy's antics.
What does it take for the penny to drop?
I suppose for the penny to drop there has to be something for it to drop into

By Dunphy's standards this is a speedy reversal of confidence in a winning managers decisions.

Dunphy is great, and I mean GREAT entertainment, he is a national treasure! The English have Shearer, Lineker and Hansen; lame and boring but we've got Giles & Dunphy, fantastic entertainment. Love it, I can't get enough!!!

i think dunphy has been right a lot in the past and obviously provides entertainment but he was the man who wanted trap appointed and he even went as far as praising the fai for appointing him and said we'd 'definatley' make the world cup. 3 games in, 7 points from 9, and hes critisizing trap worse than any critisizm hes given in a long time. dunphy needs to quit or be sacked, if anything he'll drive gilesy insane if he keeps it up

I do not agree with Dunphy and it is more to do with his tone and his OTT style. But he did make one comment which was right, that if Stan or Kerr and Mc Carthy had of sent the team out like that he would have given them welly. And he would have, so at least he did not hold back cause he agreed with the appointment. It would be worse if he was thinking things but did not carry on as usual cause his mate Brady was in the set-up.

I read Trap saying why exactly he was prepared to chance Gibson. Stan would never have done so.

He said his height was an asset that Miller didn't have and that Gibson always looked around before receiving the ball, showing a proper midfielder's instinct and composure. I think Trap probably saw up close that Gibson has a lot of what it takes in his position. I honestly think Stan just fielded players because they loosely fitted the description of midfielder or whatever. I also think Trap was humble enough (Irish Times quote today I think) to say he might be wrong sometimes.

Somewhat agree, but they generally wouldnt have recieved that amount of abuse with a win after their third competitive game. That amount of anger was not warranted (entertaining or not). Dunphy has held trap in high esteem and preached on and on about the manager. He feels trap is letting him down after all the praise he put on him.

    Drama queen.

Mc Carthy was getting abuse from the Start from Dunphy and so was Stan. I am not defending him at all just saying at least there he is fair in his abuse !!!!.
