Biggest joke of the year that statement! Yet again he came out with the ott statement at the beginning of the programme: "The Atletico defence is rubbish". Of course the opposite happens and Perea in particular at the heart of the defence has a stormer. But of course Dunphy is "rarely incorrect". Just like he said the Spanish manager was a "buffoon". He then goes on to win the European Championship but of course Dunphy is "rarely incorrect".

In fairness to him I'd forgive him for thinking the defence is crap.
6-1 by Barca and then they were terrible against Villareal where they shipped 4 in. Anyone would be forgive for holding that opinion particularly anyone who watches Spanish Football.

They've conceded less goals than any of the other teams in the group (3 from 4 games).

I used to think Dunphy was a good laugh and made a bit of sense but over the last few yrs he's just become too predictable and is trying too hard to be sensational, just a few things.

His constant slating of Ronaldo, before the Roma game was an obvious one but saying he was a disgrace in the Parkhead game when he actually had a decent game!

Wanting Andy Reid in the Ireland team, when he finally gets a manager he approved he has to find fault in him, by chartering a player who cant get into the Sunderland team latelly!

Calling John O'Shea world class recently when last yr he didnt rate him at all.

    His latest slating of Berbatov.

I actually didnt bother to listen to him before, after or at HT last night.
Just the same old predicatable whining, RTÉ might want to consider freshening things up there.

    Question

Dunphy only pretends to watch Spanish soccer. It's so obvious. I remember a couple of yrs back he was talking about Valencia being a quality side as and he named Baraja and Aimar as being their key players. These 2 guys were indeed household names as they were outstanding when helping Valencia to successive Champions League Finals. Everybody had heard of them at that stage but by the time Dunphy was calling them key players both had been suffering from various injuries and Baraja had only played 12 or 13 games the previous season. He was going on about Seville in the same way last season and when it came to naming players he would only mention the Spurs reject Kanoute and read a couple more from his list. He said they were an outstanding side and were among his favs to win it, being far superior to Real and Barca who were allegedly a shambles (although both clubs had finished 5 points ahead of Seville in La Liga). Lets face it the only chance we get to see the like of Seville and Valencia is when they are involved in a Champs Lge game against an English team or a Spanish match against Barca or Real on Sky. By the way will anybody ever forget his big U-turn in the Star earlier this year when he said "I was totally wrong about Ronaldo", what an idiot!!!!!!!

    Off topic slight but really?

I havent seen the game again on tv yet but at the match last night I thought Ronaldo was v average for Man U apart from maybe the last 20minutes when he came in to it more.

Lots of hand waving, lucky not to get a yellow/red for a kick out, plenty of wayward shots. Admittedly it was his effort that created Utds equaliser but at the time I thought he looked pretty average.

    Maybe Im wrong.
I thought you were off the drink Ronnie?

Every team has luxury type players, fair enough some work harder than others. There's many bad points about Ronaldo and he'd seriously want to grow up. Of course he could look at Rooney and learn from him but that'll never happen. I'm a huge Giles fan and enjoy Dunphy for entertainment purposes only. The guy hasn't a clue and says what will cause the most stir, it's fine saying Ronaldo should cop on and he's petulant and all the rest of it but surely his contribution on the pitch should be commended as well, 42 goals in a season is ridiculous, if u seen it on a computer game ud say tis unrealistic!!! and anti United fans couldn't even say he didn't do it against the big teams as he scored against Chelsea, Arsenal and da Pool last season.

He wants to have a pop at Ronaldo as being an "ego self-centred clown" (Aithníonn ciaróg ciaróg eile), fair enough. But we hear the same thing after EVERY Man U game with Laughing Bill throwing in some comment like "Bobby Charlton says Ronaldo is the greatest player since time immemorial. Discuss..". Big long discussion about Ronaldo (I assume as I turned over to Pat Dolan towering over Andy Townsend on Setanta as I couldn't listen to it anymore - they looked Like Little and Large - is Dolan really THAT huge?) and not much discussion about the game. Charlton, McCarthy, Kerr, Staunton, Trappatoni, Ronaldo, Beckam - people Dunphy wouldn't be fit to ties their laces but personal attacks all the time. He's made a living out of it. Nothing has changed.

yep unfortunatly thats the way it goes with all clubs ... not just man utd.. usually pick out the flair players / goalscorers and forget about the rest of team... in fairness ronaldo last year with all his goals probally had a big say in utd winning league title .

To be fair to Beckham he always struck me as a hardworking player and a model professional certainly a role model like "Padraig Harrington and Ruby Walsh" that old chestnut Dunphy comes out with

Ruby is more of a prima dona than Ronaldo, he throws the toys out everytime a race goes against him.

Yep, he has a special seat in the youths dugout for his big round arse! No messing.

Ronaldo did ok in the celtic game, was probably Utd's best attacking option and Dunphy calls him a "disgrace". Did George Best never have a below par game? Dunphy's a clown im afraid, i only watch fleetingly at best nowadays, when he starts on his tiresome tirades i change channel until KO.

You remember that, do you? God bless your memory I suspect if Ferguson want Ronaldo to track back, he would.

Didn't get to see Giles (who had written off Arsenal after the Stoke game) comments after the Gunners beat Man U.
