Setanta playoff farce?

I'm with Dodge on this, a few improvements under the FAI (most seem to be coming from Noel Mooney), but not nearly enough. I also have no confidence that Fran Gavin is able enough for the job, never mind the various conflicts he brought with him.

But getting back to the playoff, yes, its inexcusable that a format and dates have not been publicised and in any case, as stated above, the concept of a playoff is ridiculous and is plainly a sop to the First Division.

I don't mind giving a sop to the first division, it needs to get a bit more glamour into it but I always thought that it was a bad idea to give the big prize to the winners since winning the division already carries a big prize.

If the Setanta spot was given to the winner of a first division shield it could add some interest to the final third of the season when most clubs have nothing to play for.

Seems strange to give the first division a chance to qualify over the league cup winners but sure I suppose it makes things more interesting!

As for the lack of certainty about the date/structure of the play-offs it sounds like the FAI are trying to give the IFA a run for their money in the incompetence stakes.
