    Anybody seen this ?

What do we think ? I like from an entrepreneurial and commercial perspective but am deeply troubled by the likelihood of getting any decent coaches or players to buy into an X Factor style team selection policy each week.

It is also contrived and soulless.

    Thoughts ??

It'll never work. All the stakeholders would be completely removed from it and would have an idea of whats needed.

Put it this way, UEFA Licensing to be able to play in the league, how many of the people who sign up would have an idea of where to start on this and how many (if they had the know how) would be able to do anything about it over the net? Completely not practical whatsoever.

Its a novel idea but it wont work.
The SFAI are the governing body for grassroots football in Ireland, not the FAI. Its success or the lack of is all down to them.

The UEFA Licensing point isn't valid. All of the current employees and volunteers of the club would not be affected by it. The subscribers wouldn't have any day to day role except in making big decisions (re capital expenditure) and picking the team (which is bizarre I agree).

I actually think it'll work - my main worry is that its a scam and somebody would run off with all the money.

The spelling mistakes on the website don't overly add to the professionalism of it either.

i don't think 500,000 would get you very far any way....running costs would surely exceed and debt would ultimately follow in a year or two... is this just not what happened with shamrock rovers....

any way as an after thought hypothetically how would 10,000 people decide and be united on which club to purchase, after all barely 12,000-15,000 (don't know exact figure) go to games every week. again hypothetically which club would you campaign to invest in.

It was on Morning Ireland this morning - could well have been that Ian McManus chap. If you want to download Morning Ireland from the RTE website it was about 8.45am.
Hasn't a hope in hell of succeeding.

Just what Irish football needs - a load of bored idiots on the internet swooping on an established club and using it as their own wee personal plaything until they get bored and move onto something else.....

This is anything but a new idea, but would be bad for Irish football.

The positive is that I am 100% confident that it won't get off the ground. The obstacles are huge - getting 10,000 people willing to dip their hand in their pocket will be tough enough, but then finding a club willing to sell its soul to these keyboard coaches would be a tough job as well.

EL clubs may not have a lot of money, but they are at least run by peopole who are broadly passionate about what they do. I'd be shocked if any of those willingly gave their club over to these goons.

If they were looking to set-up a club from scratch, or do it with an existing junior or intermediate club, then I would have a bit more sympathy with the idea. It's interesting that they give no guidance at all as to the type of club they want to buy - other than it being "Irish". That could mean EL, IL, Intermediate whatever. They'd have a lot more credibility if they'd teed-up a club to take over through this idea from the start, ratehr than leave it wooly and vague.

Finally - I love the below quote from their homepage :

have the opportunity to become an equal part owner of a real Irish football club
There are numerous existing EL clubs that offer this opportunity already - without turning them into an internet idiot's play-thing....

I would say that at the lower reaches of the first division an offer of €400,000 would have to be made very quickly to avoid hands being snapped off. Remember that a controlling share is only 51% and so this would value the club at about €800,000. If what he is saying is true, then they wouldnt want to actually run the club, just feel like they owned it. So, the existing board would be getting a huge cash injection.

They certainly plan to run the team anyway, so that's as good as running the club really. And with a controlling share - you do legally run a club. If you fall out with the existing management - they're gone..

The whole premise they give behind this idea is that "money buys success in football". Therefore - it is not just about buying a 51% share for €400k. Where will the money come from that they know is needed to buy that success through players etc ?

I wouldn't be surprised if it was some fella looking to do something like this primarily just to write a book and/or have a reality TV show about it. Luckily, it won't get off the ground for us to find out...

I get the feeling that this guy is genuine. Call it a hunch. As far as the money goes wouldnt it be used to pay for improvements in the team etc? If that was the case I am sure that they would be welcomed on board. Could you imagine having 400,000 to put into your team each year, its only a dream where I come from

Well, the company is going to take 20% straight off what ever monies are raised ... "gooooood afternoon madam, as the representative of Money Removal PLC, we need to transfer your money from your current vault whilst it's being steam cleaned, otherwise it'll get wet."

My opinion is that if such a sum could be raised by the means described on the site, a venture like that would generate a lot of interest... initially.
I made a series of posts a couple of years back about www.webfootballclub.com.

The concept is quite similar, although rather than buying an existing club, a new team was formed in the very bottom of a regional league in france.

As far as i know, there is a clear tie between the top tier and the very bottom in france. As opposed to winning the lottery when another Eircom League teams goes tits up, a teams can be get successive promotions all the way up to Le Championnat.

Videos of each game were made. The registered users were the ones making all the team selections, through a fairly intuitive menu system.
Each game was painstakingly analysed and all statistics logged.

When you registered you were only capable of having your say on team line-up and basic formation. If the players you picked were played, you received points in relation to their performance.
If the formation you chose was used it would be rated for effectiveness.
The more points you had in relation to other users the more weight your choices had.

Unfortunately the team folded this time last year.
It was a novel idea while it lasted.
An existing club with such a set up would stand a better chance of survival as it would not be depending on donations and the odd sponsor to survive.
I say go ahead with the idea, but i am still very skeptical of its chances of success...

Nothing wrong with a bunch of people, however they are organized, wanting to put money into existing Irish football. Certainly has more merit than the insane Fingal City, or investing in Sunderland.

I dont agree that only 10 people would join.

I would say a minimum of 20 would be achieved.

But seriously i wouldnt see it doin any good to be honest,

they would never get 10k people to do this.

i hope they havent put too much money into it yet.

hopefully whatever conclusions they come to from the amount of interest in the site they have set up will help them come to the right descision
