"It's time for the FAI to grow up." John O'Donoghue, Minister for Sport, RTE , Sunday 7 Nov 2004
Well, given there was a Mexican wave at Lansdowne against SM, it's probable that we'll see another one or two, or several on Wednesday night. The only thing that's at stake is a revenge mission, and a morale boost.Originally Posted by Newryrep
As for needing to improve the seeding, load of rubbish. Unless you can make the top 2 seeds, there's no difference between 3rd, 4th, and 5th seeds, as this group has shown. When the draw is made in November, we'll still have a tough group regardless.

Go along with most of your comments here. You have to believe your eyes sometimes and I agree about O'Brien and Keogh playing well. Doyle looks short of confidence. Lehman was excellent yesterday apart from his one hike outside the area and for me saved the Germans 2 points. Keane should have buried the second chance mind. The long and short corners worked well yesterday. That was good to see. And anyone involved in the "Mexican wave" should be banned for life. We were on top at that stage and this idiocy IMO changes the rhythm of the game.

What the hell is all the talk about McGeady. He looked decent when he came on, thats about it. Hunt in the past has made much more of an impact when he came on. Long was much more influencial when he came on. Yes I think Stan probably should have brought McGeady on a little earlier but i think some people are getting taken away with his performance. Im getting tired of the mentality that because he plays decent for the good old Irish club that is Celtic he deserves to play for Ireland. Simply put Keogh had a decent game, and it says a lot that every time he got the ball the Germans doubled up on him. Andy O'Brien and Clinton Morrison have really paid the price for poor performances in Cyprus, McGeady was worse than both of those in Czech Rep and Slovakia. He had his chance(twice) and he completly blew it. IMO he really has to prove himself before getting in to the starting 11 again. A decent ten minutes against Germany wont do this. It hurt looking at last nights match because hand on heart i still think we are a stronger side than the Czechs. Yes the Germans only needed a draw last night but we outplayed them at times. When the Czechs were playing Germany at home they(the Czechs) were thought a lesson. I firmly believe that the Czechs will be doing well to get one point on the European Championships. If we get a group like this for the World Cup i for one will be delighted
Good luck for your WC 2010 quali games and many thanks for your hospitality![/QUOTE]
German Tim. Well done last night despite not playing to your full potential. Hopefully you will do well in Austria/Swiss and maybe go on to win it. You had a few Irish guys supporting you last night you know. Yes!! Believe it or not. How sad and pathetic is this? Bet you guys would never support the opposition no matter how your team was playing?
I thought it was Stan's best team selection in a competitive match (at least) to date.
The 2 strikers were very poor especially that waste of space, that is our captain.
Is it just me or is he just a cocky **** when he plays for us??
It sums up the atmosphere and the crowd when they refuse to support their team(thru' singin etc.) but get overcome with the excitement that is............................................

San Marino are going to be a handful as the group goes on." - Steve Staunton reacts to performance against San Marino.

Keane has not performed for Ireland in this campaign.
He is supposed to be our star striker and captain.
Since scoring an og in Stuttgart he missed a glorious opportunity to claim three points at home to the czechs thru his showboating and missed another great chance last night, again from showing off.
The team appear rudderless and lack a sense of purpose.
I reckon he needs to be dropped and the captaincy moved, if the manager had the guts. Try Long and Doyle together, or Keogh and Doyle.
I believe Keane would find his form again with healthy competition.
Gimme dat
I think for Andy Reid it should be a Luke Kelly song or something like that
In Trap we trust

The classiest player we have. Lucky Staunton found a pitch that suited him****in Muppet.
I have no doubt that with Reid and Hunt starting v Slovakia and Czech Republic, we would have had 6 points from those two games. (and possibly O'Shea and Kelly on opposite wings etc.)

Stan is really getting on my nerves, he says the 'team did the country proud', what does that mean? Not beating an under-strength German team who never had to move out of first gear to get the point they needed secure qualification is doing us proud?
He says we didn't get the 'rub of the green' - it seems like luck is Stan's strategy? Anyhow we had a very deep rub of gren in our last meeting with Germany to only lose 1-0. Getting away with Joey O'Brien as a makeshift CB is a fair amount of luck.
I don't really see progress, all I see is quixotic selection and a fly by the seat of your pants attitude. Whatever this team has achieved and it's not much, it has been done in spite of Stan not because of Stan.
