I dont think people are saying he should have start and I think everyone recognises he wasnt up to his best against the Czechs or Slovaks - what I am saying is

    1. that Keogh was ineffective

    2. Keogh was whipped and gave every ball away in the second half

    3. McGeady should have come on with more than 10 mintues to go - more like half an hour

    4. When McGeady came on he gave us the penetration we needed, created chances and spread the ball well.

    5. For the time the McGeady was on the park he was the best player on the park.

Instead of trot out shoite about Gretna why dont you deal in facts.

I agree Keogh was useless but I think Miller would have been better option even if he is very limited player.

McGready can play against minnows like San Marino & Wales.

Possibly to 4 (lets face it, Keogh made Kilbane look effective so anyone would've looked better) and as for 5, jesus wept....

BTW those are opinions not facts.

I did not think that Mc Geady was that good when he came on and I think that if he had of started Finnan would have been under pressure all night as McGeady offers no protection to his full back. He is a liability at this stage and he would need to add a few things to his game before he gets back in our team in my view.

    Compared with what?!

    Compared with Keogh?

    Compared with McGeady's previous appearances?

He did alright, got over a few decent balls and also a few less decent balls. But he did replace the worst player on the Ireland side.

Take off your Celtic-tinted glasses. McGeady may well develop into an international player but people like you constantly hyping him as the messiah are doing him no good at all.

Strange McGeady played left midfield for Celtic last season against the eventual European Champions twice as Celtic kept two clean sheets and his fullback wasn't destroyed... Also played against the European Champions last week and won and his fullback wasn't destroyed... hmmmm....

I think stan and the boys did well, robbie really should of scored.

We'll qualify for the next world cup under stan, I'm sure of it.

Also the boys who booed stan at half time, you should be ashamed .

    Great.

When is he going to translate that to international level?

Atmosphere was poor, doesnst help when our entire singing reportoire is 'Ireland' and 'Stand up for the boys in green' Thought the Germans fans were quiet given the amount of them. 3 times at Croke Park in the same seat and each time different people around ? Would imagine those at Cyprus on wed would be more interested in supporting the team as opposed to being entertained. Mexican waves - doubt there will be any on Wed thank God. They have no place at any game

Didnt think the team played to bad, Keane miss was particularily disappointing as was a Carsley? shot very late on that was closer to the corner flag but cant remember any sustained pressure.

6 points badly needed in the next 2 games. Staunton /Delaney are going no where we may as well make the best of it.

    Well said.

Some event-junkie behind me cheered when the wave started and nearly orgasmed when it came around.

Nothing game, tells nothing that we didnt already know. Given and back four done their job. Midfield ok apart from Keogh. Doyle suited the Germans, we needed a nippy striker to cause them problems but Captain Keane just directed airplanes all night waving his arms about as usual. Shame.

McGeady, I cant believe the sh1te. Plays well against Falkirk apparently.

If the Germans needed to win 3-0 last night, they would have. And without Ballack, Klose and Schweinstieger.

This campaign we have played true to form. We are FOURTH seeds in a weak group. Face the facts. 13000 watched Romania beat the Dutch last night. No wonder everyone in Europe thinks we're fcuking mad.

Compared with Leogh, compared with his last two games and compared with the rest of the team - I know it must hurt you to acknowledge that he played well when he came on

Who is hyping him - I said he was shoite against the Czechs and Slovaks - I have been very fair in my assessment actually - when are you going to take off you EPL tinted glasses?

No it doesn't hurt me to acknowledge anything as I have no vested interest in the players in the squad.

I call it the way I see it.

McGeady has been very poor in an Ireland jersey (granted he's far from the only one) and he ain't the only one who fails to reproduce club form at international level.

As for hyping him, you said he was the best player on the pitch!!!

I was dissapointed we didn't win, we should have really. Some typical trollish comments in this thread.
Keogh and O'Brien did well. My minimum expectation for a new cap in a Qual game is that they are not a liability on the pitch. Keogh showed guts/committment and gave his all. The Germans were quick to double up on him more than a few times. He showed real promise here and I hope he gets more experience.
Joey O'Brien, a full hearted player in the middle of the defence.
Kelly too had a solid game, offered just as much as Finnan on the other side.
Doyle's mind was lost in the first half or else it was a disgracefull attitude. He improved the 2nd half, obviously told to get stuck in and play more with Keogh.

I would go with Long and Keane up front in the next game, they appear to work better as a pair.
The ref was good, another one would have sent off Dunne with a 2nd yellow for his stupid dissent.
    Carsley and Kilbane did well.
There are no brownie points for Stan for doing the obvious things right but deserves credit for Keogh and O'Brien.
ATM I would take Joey O'Brien over O'Shea 10 times out of 10

I wouldnt call that hyping merely making an observation! Name the other players that played better than McGeady for the period he was on the park.

Long looked ok to for the last few minutes apart from that I cant think of one!

Well said, mate! I just can't undertand why Staunton didn't bring him earlier...

Congrats on a decent performance! You played a lot better than the Czechs did in their home match against Germany and gave us a hell of a fight! Kudos for this! I always knew that you aren't as bad as you seem to have been lately ... so it's a pity we won't see you in Austria/Switzerland next summer! I think your great fans would have deserved it.

Good atmosphere at Croke Park, your support is a lot better than the English (in contrast to Wembley, when we had a "home game", I couldn't hear much of the 6,000 German fans)! The stadium impressed me very much as well, did anybody around here attend the game and take a few nice pics of the game and "fan festival" before the match?

Good luck for your WC 2010 quali games and many thanks for your hospitality!

Christ man get a grip!! He came on for last 10 minutes when all the other players had just played 80 minutes of the match! Of course he's gonna be more active than them when he comes on!!

Don't think so. In comparison to the atmosphere in a sold out Wembley (the German fans totally drowned the hosts supporters out), it was really superb!

That was my impression as well. At how many would you estimate them? The German media reports on about 6,000...

Maybe they were so quiet because

    1) your support was so good
    or
    2) you are no "rivals" to us
    or
    3) the German team's performance was more than mediocre
    or
    4) they all got drunk at the "fan festival" before the game

I wouldn't be so sure about this (although it was obvious that we played for a draw)...
