    Nick Broomfield documentaries

Nick Broomfield has a new film out based on one of the Haditha (Iraq) massacres in 2005. Battle of Haditha

After interviewing returned marines posted in the town and survivors of the massacre who had fled to Amman (Jordan). He started shooting with a cast of ex-marines and Iraqi civilians.

I have not seen Battle for Haditha, I've only viewed the trailer and read a little about this film.
I used to like Broomfield films alot. Famous for using a sound boom as a prop on his profile documentaries. But I have my doubts about this one, it appears to be choc-full of stereo-types not least the haunting 'Hollywood Arabic' music when anything appears sinister. Included in the guardian article above in a quote about how after a few weeks filming ".......the Iraqis and marines got to kicking a football around and chatting."

His real-life documentaries are very good
The Leader, his driver and the driver's wife. was taking in risk in profiling Jean terre-Blanche carismatic and popular leader of an afrikaans political party in South Africa while apartheid was still legal. But Broomfield shown up the leader as a shallow vain individual which may not have changed minds in South Africa but was reminder to stand up to bullys. The film was also very humourous which is walking a tight-rope protraying extremests, the viewer might get to like them.

He followed a retired Margaret Thatcher to the States on her book signing tour. And added in the fact that her so Mark 'lost in Nth. Africa' Thatcher was an active arms dealer.

Of course profiling dead celebrities will always when you friends, so American got the treatment with

and Kurt Cobain early Seattle life and Courtney Love's family

But with Courtney witholding permision to use his published material left a small hole in the film.

fethises was another film that hit the big screen, apparently he spent several weeks viewer Dominatrix establishments in New York, before chosing one and filming the clients as well as the workers inside.

But getting back to his current release I think maybe he would like to be identified with some other famous films which attempt to recreate authentic scenes of battle.
Stanley Kubrick (obviously) but more closely Gilli Pontecorvo
