Foot.ie "Trademark"

Project #633: Come up with a "trademark" for Foot.ie, i.e. something that will sit alongside the name as the standard Foot.ie war cry. A couple of cruddy ones I've come up with in the five minutes since I thought of this are...

• Foot.ie: Football With Stout
• Foot.ie: Football + Community
...but obviously you guys will come up with something far cleverer. English or Gaeilge, cleverest wins first prize of five pints next time I see you. The judges decision is final, and I'm the judge.

The SFAI are the governing body for grassroots football in Ireland, not the FAI. Its success or the lack of is all down to them.

"Following Our Own Teams In Eire" is excellent, but it doesn't really fit what I'm trying to do. I'll still consider it for the "prize" though. I'm already using a few of these on the development server, so I'll list 'em here, give you an idea of the direction I'm going...
$tms = array(
'Great Balls Of Fire',
'Football With Stout',
'More Balls Than Brains',
'Putting The Boot In',
'With Added U.C.D.',
'Talk Balls',
'Powered By PROC'
);
adam

On the ones already listed "great Balls of Fire" is terrible and "More balls than Brains" is great...

These will be loaded randomly on the homepage, so I just threw that in to fill out the list a little. I think "More Balls Than Brains" is ahead by a nose in the permanent trademark comp. Bear in mind when you're thinking of these that I'll be adding new sections to the site shortly, so there's a chance Foot.ie will be more than just a discussion site in future.

You mean in a sort of HospitalPass sort of mould?

With articles and so forth.

Also a great feature would be to tell people how to get to grounds from different places (what buses, trains etc.), if any local pubs or chippers come recommended (for instance there's a chippie just down the road from the Carlisle Grounds which has some great food).

The way the ground works also. Like where to but your ticket, where the home/away fans usually are etc. This would be very helpful for newbie fans who are deciding not to go to certain games because they don't know how to.

Nope. I'd like to do something like this, but it would require a network of willing, reliable and reasonably capable writers; and a publishing system tied into the forum software; and I honestly don't have the time or the energy to get into something that complex yet. That said, I've been hacking vBulletin over the last few days, and that's valuable experience. I'd like to do it in future, but we'll see how it goes.

I'd like to see all those things on the site, but to be perfectly frank, I'm not going to do them. My contribution to the Foot.ie community is the resources that enable it to run, and code for new stuff when I get a spare minute. I'm usually lax to introduce new stuff, because more often than not they bomb, leaving me with a big hole I could have filled with commercial projects. The way I see it, content and drive is the responsibility of the rest of ye. You know what you have to do.

That said, I'm going to throw a couple of beta programs at you over the next few weeks and months. One you already know about, a locally-hosted webmail system I'm going to test with the folks currently on Everyone.net with corkcityfc.net (if they'll agree to it). The other you should see appearing Real Soon Now. It's nothing special, but it might add a little more value to the site for you guys. Or not, we'll see.
