Dave O'Leary, the best reason for keeping McCarthy on!
We're not arrogant, we're just better.

Probably not, but the situation is so desperate at the moment that ANYTHING is worth a shot. If Dave has learnt from his mistakes at Leeds (which ranged from the trivial to spectacular blunders) then he'd probably do a very decent job for us.

O´Leary is one of the worst managers I´ve ever seen. I´d rather McCarthy blindfolded and gagged on the sideline than O´Leary

O' Leary' s campaign at Leeds is reason enough not to bring him in. He'll have no money to spend and would do ten times worse.

    Joe Kinnear or Brian Kerr

I think Brian Kerr has already said recently that he wasn't interested in the job. As for who else is out there its fairly slim pickings. Anyway, our squad just isn't good enough for any manager out there to do well with. We have one or two outstanding players (Duff, maybe Carr and Finnan when fit, maybe O'Shea in time) and after that the quality begins to drop off enormously. Kinsella, Holland, Breen, Harte etc, etc none of these are going to get into too many decent international sides, good pros as they are though.

We just don't have the depth to compete for more than a few years because we're a small fish in a big pond, and a new manager isn't going to be the saviour of this team. Talking about a new manager or bringing back a 31 year old injury prone midfielder with an anger management problem is probably like shuffling the deck chairs on the Titanic at this stage.

Brian Kerr is hardly going to say he's interested in the job while Mick is still employed by the FAI. Of course he's interested.

either way i think the idea of getting a manager in while the pressure is off. (i.e. it wouldnt be entirely his fault if we dont qualify) is the best option available

Exactly. Now that we're not going to Portugal, there's no point having Mick as manager and having O'Shea on the bench untill 2004.

Gunther would do a better job than 'At the end of day' O'Leary! The only person I'd like to see replace Mick would be Brian Kerr. (At least Brian wouldn't take back the Mayfield One, I'd be pretty sure of that)

Alot of people have been talkin' about the boy Roy lately, and the question you have to ask is: If Mick and the FAI were able tot bury the hacket, and everything was resolved would it then be OK for Roy to come back or will people take this one to the grave. Either way, right now we are suffering without him. One of the best players our country turns out (Not the "I'm related to the local bus driver whos neighbour is Irish" effort) and he cant get a game .... i think it is shockin' to say the least.

when all's said and done though...

wednesday nite showed that there is a lot of development needed within the team. Roy is 31 and probably only has two or three years left. He's injury prone and there's always that fade that players tend to suffer at the end of their careers. Regardless of whether he comes back or not, no matter what anyone tries to suggest, he aint goin to be winning any EC's or WC's for us. By all means if he comes back it would be well appreciated but it's not the only thing that will save us now and he certainly is not the only thing lacking in our team.

People forget Mr. Keane has been injued & would not have been available anyway for the last 2 games.

Its debatable if the rest of the squad from the World Cup could play alongside him even if McCarthy left anyway such was the level of anamosity that built up.

IMO Keane isn't cut out for international football - he can survive at club level as rarely has to spend more than a day or 2 in the company of his team-mates. He probably has the same problems at club level but doesn't have to go away to tornaments with them.

I don´t think keane coming back is an option:
    1. Most of the other players would not react to it well.
    2. It sets a dangerous precedent for indiscipline inthe squad.
    3. He said he had planned to retire from international football anyway.
    4. I don´t believe Keane is man enough to admit he may have been wrong and partially to blame, and there´s no way he should be allowed back without an apology of some sort.

But, can we still qualify? Best case scenario, we win our remaining 6 matches and finish on 18 points. Will that 18 points REALLY be enough to catch both Russia and Switzerland, or even either one of them? And as I say, that's only the best case scenario............
