I flew with Aer Lingus 3 and 4 years ago. I had to laugh. After taking a Korean Air flight from Seoul, which arrived 15 minutes early for an 11 hour flight, I transferred to Aer Lingus in Heathrow. We took off 35 minutes late, and during the flight the pilot explained we would arrive 30 minutes late due to a "headwind"! (Pretty strong headwind that affects the plane while still on the ground) To top it off, I got gum stuck to the back of my pants, from the seat.
With RyanAir, I pay cheap prices, the service is poor enough, they try (and fail) to flog stuff to me. I'm happy with the balance of cost and service.
With Air Lingus, I was not. If I pay more, I expect better, which I didnt get.
I can understand some of the negativity here, but some people are posting like a Ryan Air crash would make their day, just so they could say "I told you so".

Given -by and large.
Though just because they haven't lost a plane yet doesn't neccessarily mean that their operating model is best practice.
Also just as a general rule for air travel ...pretty much any "first world" airline is safer than the alternatives. This is usually down to more stringent safety and mantainance checks. An area it is mercifully beyond the gift of the Ryanairs to "cut costs" on.

ryanair have now hiked up all the prices too which is going to hit there customers.they continually add little extras which is very annoying.why should it cost u to check in at the airport.surely u should be given a discount if u check in on line and not penalised if u go to the airport.they try and trick u into paying travel insurance.i will still travel with them because they are the cheapest but they are low fare only by name now
I like capitalism because it gives us all a choice about what type of airplane we fly in.
I don't think this is actually true. The airline industry has high barriers to entry (cost, regulation etc.) and there are plenty of examples of Ryanair reducing competition on routes by predatory pricing which they bump up when other airlines are forced off routes.
TO TELL THE TRUTH IS REVOLUTIONARY
The ONLY foot.ie user with a type of logic named after them!
All of this has happened before. All of it will happen again.
The prefabricated building will go when Pier D is opened. You can blame O'Leary becauase he held up the building of Pier D. It is a kip and I don't understand why the DAA don't provide some sort of buggy for elderly people to get to and from it. Someone told me that it was a mile to walk down to it from the security check. The accoustics are terrible making it impossible to understand the PA announcements and a lot of people miss flights because of the general chaos of trying to find there way down to it and poor announcements.
Most of us who fly regularly can find our way around airports, but there are people out there who get in a right mes when they're in one and need al the help hey can get.

Examples please of full service airlines that park at gates with airbridges and don't use them.
Who said no seats? Its enough seats. People shouldn't have to stand.
You're arguing against yourself here. The new terminal is Cork was strongly opposed by Ryanair over the level of facilities it provided and its cost. They wanted a much more spartan affair.
Cityjet in Charles de Gaulle. TBH can't remember if they use in Dublin. IMO they are a full fare airline as fully owned by Air France & they transfer you to connecting flight.
I meant no available seats. Although I do agree few if any seats on the corridor to Pier A in Dublin. Ryanair probably paying less to use those "Gates" but then again no alternatives so mainly DAAs fault.
There was talk of Ryanair taking over the old Terminal. BTW they installed a couple of air bridges in Cork Airport but AFAIK no airline use them so they asked the Airport not to install any more.
Full fare airlines charge for overweight luggage too. It was long haul but Air France charged me E30 per kilo recently & enforced as strict if not more strictly than Ryanair.
I presume Aer Lingus not a full fare airline any more? i.e. no connections or flight changes?
On a 15kg weight limit? Albeit the lower weight limit is a pain in the arse, it's the non transferability even when on the same booking that's the real scam.
I wouldn't say so - they're so obsessed with costs that they're removing the things that people were prepared to pay for. They're not going to out low cost ryanair, so they should be competiting on added value. Actually I don't think Mannion actually cares anymore, it's all a personal crusade.
If you attack me with stupidity, I'll be forced to defend myself with sarcasm.
This post by Justin Mason has a long string of lovely stories about them in the comments:

Travelling on a delayed flight from Barcelona to Dublin with Aer Lingus recently Aer Lingus held a Boston flight in Dublin because an american family connecting through were on ours. I don't have a lot of time for Aer Lingus lately but I have to take my hat off to them for that. It was entirely decent of them.
