Fair play Rovers on a fantastic idea. We need more of this kind of thing.

I also think that clubs should give away cheap sports bags with club colours and logos and give them to kids in nearby schools for free - inside include something like a colour booklet on the history of the club, stickers and perhaps a DVD with goals and crowds and so on. This stuff does not cost what it used to cost and is very do-able and would sow the seeds for the future.

I think it was in Cork and Germany weren't involved either way!

The under-21 qualifiers aren't being run on the same groups as the seniors any more. Ireland are playing England at the Cross tomorrow night, they were playing a friendly in Sweden at the weekend.

The German Under 21s were playing in Israel.
One of the German Team, who is of Iranian background, refused to travel and it has been a major news considering the historical sensitivites involved.

    Anyway brilliant stuff from Rovers.

a bit rich imo, I'm surprised that the Isrealies agreed to play the Germans in the first place

Great idea from Rovers. Good to see loads of German club flags at Tolka on Friday.

In fairness - the German-Iranian player was between the provrebial rock and hard place.

Iran doesn't recognise Israel, and it's President has openly declared the country's aim of wiping it off the map. If the German player had travelled to Israel, he'd have been denied access to the country - meaning he would'nt have been able to visit relatives there ever again.

Other Iranian players around Europe have skipped games in Israel - usually by feining injury. The German fella's honesty by not doing likewise has bitten him on the arse here.

it's a bit rich that a German refuses to play in Israel due to historical/political differences!

I think I saw some paper being thrown too Scumbags.

Fair play to Rovers though, looked good on TV, although RTE didn't seem to have any footage of the flares at the start, George Hamilton was just moaning about how he couldn't see.
I phoned the speaking clock to hear a voice speak, it said - "At the tone you will be very much alone"

You can download a high def (40MB) version here:

There's an interesting video from a German fan here:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QAB8XiUmyw4

Very funny to see them getting a standard German chant going with the Rovers fans in the Riverside towards the end and some other funny stuff.

Next time the Ultras go a bit mental we'll have four cameras on it instead of two.
