Mick McCarthy did a good job for Ireland. Only two managers in the history of the country have lead the Irish team to a major championship and only one of them was Irish. He also gave everything when playing for his country (he wouldn't have turned his back on the shot for the Slovakian equaliser) so I think we can pass on the pejorative term p****. If the wildnerness years continue, his record will look even better.

Forget about the performance or entertainment. It's only the result that matters.

Saying it was despite Mick is just revisionist nonsense anyway. Sure, his nemesis in Saipan was the single most influential figure involved in getting us there but Mick got good performances from other players too.

had a good look at this at the weekend. In the 2002 campaign, we took 6 points from our games with the first and second seeds and won the rest. Thats whats required and we're not even close to it in this campaign. Whatever about the games against the big two, mick comfortably won against the likes of estonia, andorra and cyprus home and away and particularly Estonia away was without Roy.

For us to have any chance in 2010, the key is taking maximum points off the teams beneath us in the seedings, only then can we realistically think of qualification, may be worth considering playing the top seeds early again, it didnt work this campaign but I do think Germany are playing better now than they did back in stuttgart.

Felt you had to get that McCarthy dig in did you? Trying to look back on the good times and you felt compelled to have a go.

I have posted on here before and I'll say it again the best football we ever played was under Mick, even the other party involved in the Saipan incident has conceded that Mick can manage, but probably still feels the same way about his first touch!
