FAI Junior Cup draw
Manorhamilton FC (Manor Rangers) V Mervue Utd
West Utd v Howth Celtic
St Patricks v Corduff Utd
FAI Junior Cup draw
Manorhamilton FC (Manor Rangers) V Mervue Utd
West Utd v Howth Celtic
St Patricks v Corduff Utd
Is the cup that is presented to the champions known by a particular name - note from Mervue's history on their web site a number of cup wins that may be league wins.
Lots of Connacht Cup games called off because of the weather but some did go ahead.
Medtronic 1-0 Dunmore Town
Athenry 5-0 Roscommon Town
Strand Celtic 1-6 Salthill Devon
City United 2-3 Colga
Kiltullagh 2-1 Snugboro
West Utd w/o Glenhest Rovers
Weather permitting, league action will resume next week with 3 games down for decision.
Dynamo Blues v Athenry
West Utd v Corrib Rangers
Salthill Devon v Kiltullagh
The trip to Tuam is a potential banana skin for the Athenry men. A late goal saved their blushes on the opening day of the season as they salvaged a 1-1 draw. A game that will define both sides title ambitions at South Park as a draw is no good to either West or Rangers. Both sides have the talent but need to become more consistent. Devon should account for Kiltullagh with the minimum of fuss up in Drom.
Predictions: Blues 2-2, West 2-1, Devon 3-0
Hibs take on Boyle Celtic in the Connacht Cup while Mervue Utd will look to continue their good Cup form against Ballinasloe Town in the semi final of the Connacht Senior Cup.
The weather decimated 98% of the Junior football scheduled in Galway last weekend. The one game played in the Premier saw Salthill's slim title hopes evaporate as they were clawed back by a late Kiltullagh equaliser after leading 2-0 at the break.
This week:
League
Kiltullagh v Hibs
Colga v Salthill
Connacht Cup
Rangers v Claregalway
Blues v Kilkerrin
Renmore v Castlerea
FAI Junior
West v Howth Celtic
St Pats v Corduff Utd
Manorhamilton v Mervue Utd
In the league, Hibs are really the only team left with a chance to catch Athenry and cannot afford to drop points away to a competitive Kiltullagh outfit. Colga may give Salthill a shock in Clarinbridge.
All 3 home sides can progress in the Connacht Cup, with Renmore having the trickiest outing against Castlerea.
Three interesting ties in the FAI Junior Cup. West will be hard beat at home, with Terryland on standby if The Swamp isn't up to scratch. St Pats are capable of anything at home, while Mervue have saved their best for the Cup this year but face a long trip to Manorhamilton.
Happy New Year
Premier League action returns this weekend, weather permitting, with a relegation six pointer between Renmore and Colga. Colga have got 2 valuable points from recent encounters with Hibs and Salthill Devon, but will need a win from this game as Renmore have 2 games in hand on them.
Prediction: 1-1 Draw
The Oscar Traynor side are in action on Saturday in Terryland Park against Mayo. The Galway side scraped a 1-0 win up in Donegal first time out and although the Mayo league are currently out of season, it should be a tight encounter.
West Utd were handed a daunting task, even at home, when paired with Douglas Hall in the next round of the FAI Junior Cup. St Patricks have yet to play their game with Corduff Utd.
Renmore got the better of Colga in the relegation battle, securing a 2-0 win which leapfrogs them over both Colga and Kiltullagh.
Galway got the better of a dissapointing Mayo side in the Oscar Traynor, prevailing 2-0 with goals from Ollie Keogh and Keith Ward. They are now in pole position to top their group.
A couple of important fixtures to look forward to this week. Mervue play host to Hibs on Sunday morning in a game resheduled from September. On that occasion, Mervue failed to turn up claiming they weren't given enough notice of the fixture, Hibs were awarded the win but Mervue overturned the result on appeal.
The game is even more relevant now as Hibs continue their pursuit of Athenry while Mervue will need to get a few wins soon or they may be looking over their shoulders at the teams below them. Having Ollie Keogh and Dave Goldbey as a front two should help their cause. Goldbey has returned to the club where he was so prolific in the past at this level before and his presence is needed, as Mervue, if you disregard two 4 goal games, have only scored 4 in their other six matches. Hibs desperately need to win this game to close the gap to four points and their midfield duo of Alan Ryan and Pole Przemer Konik may well swing the tie in their favour.
Prediction: 2-1 Hibs
West Utd and St.Patricks are in action in the FAI Junior against Douglas Hall and Corduff. While this is not the same Douglas team that hammered Cobh last year, it will still be a tough test for the men from the Claddagh. St.Patricks are an unknown quantity who have disposed of supposedly superior sides so far and could pull off a shock.
Prediction: One team from Galway to progress.
In the Connacht Cup, Renmore and Colga tussle again for a place in the last 16. In another all Premier clash, Salthill travel to Tuam to take on Dynamo Blues, while Corrib Rangers are at home to Corofin Utd. Athenry continue the defence of their title with a trip to play Straide and Foxford.
Prediction: Renmore, Blues, Rangers and Athenry to go through.
It's Douglas Hall's second team, still capable of giving west a good game if west don't perform to there best
al,just to let u know alan ryan is in australia,so can't really see him influencing the hibs mervue game on sunday,my prediction is a draw,i think blues will beat salthill in the connacht, athenry won't have it all there own way up in foxford, but should advance, pats i think have a chance if they play corduff in caherlistrane, but if not u would have 2 fancy corduff, west hopefully will do the business, but it depends on which west team turns up,watched them all season, they have been brilliant in alot of games and unbelievably bad in others,if they play well i'd expect them 2 go through!
if u got no socks,u can't pull them up!
Cheers for the update on Ryan, was wondering alright why he wasn't involved with the Town team. There was a lot of rain yesterday, but forecast for today to be cloudy with maybe just a few showers. Hopefully the big games will go ahead.
Hibs did manage to keep up the pressure with a narrow 1-0 win over Mervue, Keith McHugh getting the vital goal. With half their games played Mervue are only 2 points off relegation. The term "too good to go down" springs to mind, but if they don't beat the teams below them it could be an embarressing climax to the season for a club entering the Eircom League "A" Division.
Athenry marched on in the Connacht Cup, while Colga overturned last weeks result when beating Renmore 4-2 away. Salthill-Blues and Rangers game were both called off.
Both Galway teams exited the FAI Junior Cup. West went out via a sudden death penalty shoot out loss to Douglas Hall following a scoreless 110 minutes. St Patricks also exited as they lost 2-1 to Corduff Utd up in Drom.
Performance of the week goes to Medtronic, a side who were playing Saturday football last season. Following a heavy 9-2 Cup defeat by Knocknacarra last week, they bounced back to beat the same opponents 1-0 in the Connacht Cup and earn a place in the last 16.
No games in the Premier League this week as the Oscar Traynor side entertain the Inishowen League on Saturday night at Terryland (Weather permitting). A win will guarantee Galway a home tie in the last 16.
Result: Galway 0-1 Inishowen

Athenry take on Renmore in the only Premier League game of the weekend. Renmore have started to find some form of late, but it would be hard to see them getting anything from this game.
The majority of the sides in the league are in Connacht Cup action tomorrow with Blues v Devon the only all-Premier tie.
I thought it was donegal?
moyville are in the inishowen league in donegal.
pain is only temporary, glory is forever.
