Rovers have a bigger budget than we have and there are very few of their players part time. Its been impossible to prise the very best players away from the Dublin clubs for years because they are on better money and feel that somewhere like Galway,Sligo or Cork is not the place they want to live and you have to work with the hand your dealt with .
We have had a huge turnover of players since last season and it takes at least one season to show the benefits of a fulltime setup just look at Drogheda whose Budget dwarves ours and nearly all their squad live and train in Dublin. They have debts of €2.6m and if the devolopers pulled the plug tomorrow would fold.

A bit over the top reaction regarding the result. Can anyone remember a season when we didn't get a good hiding in one game. To have lost only 2 games by more than a goal is a feat in itself. As for getting beaten by a part-time Rovers outfit......they have better players, whether they're full-time, part-time or flexi-time it makes no odds.
I still think we are moving in the right direction. It might not be quick enough for everyone's liking, but to stay up should have been the only target Cousins set himself this year.
You can't just make sweeping statements like that. How do you know they have a bigger budget? You looked at their accounts did you?
If you're going to make educated guesses then surely us-the full time outfit and squad who bought a number of players-have the bigger budget.
Also they most definitely are not all full time. That i know for a fact. There was some programme about Scully and Rovers on RTE a few months back.

thank you!!
in fairness we are where we are because of the teams around us have been so poor.... 4 wins in 26 games isnt an insurmountable accomplishment ffs. Tony has had time and resources at this stage and the starting 11 now differs completly from the one he inherited and IMO it isnt any better. having bought in excess of 10 plyers this year we still have 2/3/4 players out of position every game.... whatever about his work rate john lester isnt anywhere near a good enough center-half.
Tony doesnt match the ambitions of the club and i dont think he ever will, id be surprised if he took us to where we want to be(prem champions) for every 5 players he buys 4 dont work out, that in itself ill use as means for my argument
yes we were on an un-beaten run but how many wins were in there??.... at this stage when we win a game ppl are giving the management and players too much credit....they should be winning every game not 1 in 5/6
There's the right way, the wrong way.... and the Max Power way!! :-D
Our budget is over E1,000,000 in 2007. This was made public at the start of the season. Average expenditure is therefore E25,000 per week.
I would be surprised if Shamrock Rovers budget is even half that. The 400 club raises between E3-4,000 a week.
No excuses, please, for players and management.
That is the total budget for the club Pa some people on here think that is the footballing budget which is €670,000 which is €12,500 per week for a full year if we are full time. Its easy to spin figures but i doubt very much if Rovers Playing budget is less than that.
No one is standing up for players or managment but some of the posts on here would do justice to some of the less savoury tabloids and some people are just asking for is balanced debate and not just jumping on every result as a must win game and the Manager and Players dont give a damn.
At the start of the season anyone involved with the running of GUFC had one ambition and that was to stay up this year and build for next season which will be the most important for every Club in the country. We are on track just about at the moment and we need everyone working together to ensure we stay up.
Its crazy to have people giving the players a standing ovation one week and booing them off the field the next. Look at the rovers fans and the way they stick with the team even when things looked grim on the pitch and off it.
We are the Galway Boys Stand up and make some noise"
I must admit i agree with gufct on the above quote . I think from the outset this was the goal , a lot has been said about TC about the players he has brought in and and played in whatever positions . but we must stand by him as no doubt it is a learning curve for him also I am sure he is big enought to admit that he has made mistakes , but he sees the players train each day which most of us on here don't so he has an idea and gos with it .
Now when any manager has been on a bad streak he has to move things about a bit and just about try anything to grind out a positive result .
I still beleive TC is the man to take the club forward and we should all get behind him and his staff .![]()
When we go and follow GUFC around the country i think we're entitled to our reactions after certain games. Fair enough i dont condone booing them off the pitch but in saying that they know themselves they dont deserve a standing ovation every week. As for sticking with the team, c'mon GUFCT you know as well as i do that there are a lot of fans around that have been there when things looked grim as well, both on and off the pitch
I wasnt saying all the supporters are like that GG but its the ones who are waiting for them to fail that drive me crazy.
We are the Galway Boys Stand up and make some noise"
If your looking for the people who are waiting for the team to fail GUFCT look to Dundalk and some Sligo supporters and of course the barstoolers looking for something to talk about. To say the posters here or those who go to Terryland are waiting for the team to fail is ridiculous. We all have are views but just because we have a rant about them on here does not mean we want them to fail ffs. its simply showing our frustration with the failures that have happened throughout the season. And to all the players/management that read this forum we are 100% behind you in the push for safety.
"Are those my feet" Fr Jack Hackett
No one wants the team to fail, gufct. We just want players and management to give 100% for the cause. It is patently obvious that a section of the first team squad have either attitude problems, insufficent abililty to play at this level, or in some cases, both.
Considering the season we have had, the supporters have been very patient. No other club in Ireland would be getting 2,000 at home (vs Sligo) after five months without a home win.
I will be supporting the players on the pitch and the management until the end of the season.
well i have missed damn all games this season and bar certain players not being up to it I wouldnt question the majority of the squads commitment or Tony or any of the rest of the footballing side for that matter. This year was always going to be awkward for us with so many changes in Players.
As for the poster who said that 4 out of 5 of Tonys signings were bad I dont think anyone on here would agree with that. Noitmeer, Rogers, Lester, Fitzgerald, Glynn are hardly testimony on that.
We are the Galway Boys Stand up and make some noise"
putting Lester in there is a joke...the fella cant play the position Tony bought him for and is nowhere near a good enough CB. he was a waste of money, you can hardly say you'd have him there over any other CB is the league would ya?
Armstrong,Mensah,O'Flynn,Brianias,Fagen,Faherty,Tr acey,Lester....
ill give ya Glynn although his all round contribution is VERY poor..unless he's put through on goal his contribution is zero, having said that put him in on goal and he's likely to score.
id even be inclined to put Rogers in, on the basis of all the points he cost us earlier in the season and his kicking is woeful, coupled with the fact he wont even move down here shows his long term commitment to the cause, doesnt have a cup/league(if he does it will only be with us cause no other top club would take him) in him IMO!
thats 8 players who have been a waste of money. Managers cant afford to make more then 1/2 bad signings a season theres 8 there ffs!
There's the right way, the wrong way.... and the Max Power way!! :-D
None of the players you have mentioned cost a penny as they were all on frees.
I think if you ask anyone about Lester they will disagree with you as he has been easily our best player overall for the last 2 months. Also Vinny is only u21 and will need at least one full season before you can judge him. If you check our defensive record this season its probably the best we have had in the last 15/16 years so to pick on Rogers is ridiculous as well.Tracey is 20 and Fagan has barely played whose to say that they wont make good squad players.
Mensah and Armstrong both got bad injuries one of them after 63 mins in his first game and is that the Managers fault???????
We are the Galway Boys Stand up and make some noise"
well armstrong had a history which we all knew about before he even came here, rogers has cost us points in a few games i can sit down think aboit them and name them out if ya want?. lester isnt a good center-back, your own lil world if ya think that.... he does try his heart out and is decent in the air but he knows nothing about playing the position!
yes tracey is 20, not 17...... he's a near full grown man if he's not ready now when will he be?. and why has fagen barely played?.... obvioulsy Tony prefers what we had before....
i know they were frees and i obvioulsy meant wages when i stated money!
why are you comparing our record to teams of old??.... teams of old never had it better GUFCT and you know that yourself..... bottom line is switch scully with tony and we'd have been the team 2nd in the table!. and he wouldnt have needed half our budget!
There's the right way, the wrong way.... and the Max Power way!! :-D
In fairness, gilberto, Lester and Rogers have been decent signings.
The jury is out on a lot of the others mentioned.
Surely its fair to question a manager who kept playing Reilly Moran and Cooke for most of the season. How can we expect to be in a higher league position when 3 of our players were poor first division players. im sure you have noticed we look a far better team when they dont play.
gg
The 2,000 you've got has nothing to do with the fact you're playing Sligo, no?Originally Posted by Patrick Dunne

The problem with yis, is that (as we saw from our 4 games last year, that produced only 3 goals) you score and concede few. Away from home that works, because you have to defend for most of the game, but at home you have to come out and play a bit, when you can't score many goals anyway. Maybe your squad is set up to defend, and so perform better on their travels.

i want is united to fail, ffs ask any of my family who laugh when i walk in the door after our many many losses over the years. TC i hope doesnt fail either but he is dismal as a decision maker so far . The coaching must be woeful when you look at the touches of some of the players cooke, moran, oflynn (the biggest joke ever). On lester i would probably give him the nod for player of the season and he has givin everything but he is a first division player and will never compete at midfield with the best in the league.
regi, rogers and fitzgrald i would hold, keane, glynn & russell because they are young and local. Id say glynn probably came to the club as opposed to TC going out recruiting him, unless TC spends his weekends in mayo watching junior matches
still i will support to seasons end at the matches and as is my choice go awol on this forum every other week, regretting posts sometimes.
cmon united
