[QUOTE=JC_GUFC;772161]It was a terrible performance and Tony admitted as much, he said we were only lucky to lose by 4 and that most of the players looked uninterested.

    Classic TC.

Tell everyone what they want to hear.If he came out and said we were unlucky people would really be annoyed.Instead he plays the cute angle of siding with the supporters. Not the 1st time he's played this card.Sick of it at this stage.

Priority is to keep us up and then get a proper management structure in place for next season.Otherwise we'll definitely be in the bottom three.

i honestly think that if we went in 0-0 at half time it wouldnt have been 4-0

its true rovers were camped down in utds 18 yard area - but didnt look like scoring with all the crosses and corners free kicks etc. they had for most of the first half

it was when regi went off that things looked shaky - but even at that - frustration would have mounted for rovers - not being able to convert

for their first goal what a crushing blow for us - but all being said a front post header flicked on, was allowed to bounce and come down and then hit on the volley

4 united players paused to watch and marvel at this phenomenon

utd gave it a go for 15mins in the second half - until rovers took their second - this is what has me thinking that they could have played a lot better but just dropped the heads - way to easily

murphy did cut a nice ball across the box - but noone thought it was worth running into the area to tap in

long ball the call of the day again

wes not a wing back - the last 2 goals came through him - with central defenders coming to the wings, to cover - leaving big holes for the midfield and rovers forwards to walk through

derek glynn does not offer much if all you can do is play a ball for him to run onto to take a defender on at pace - he needs more to his game

i know the long ball is no good to him - but he doesnt seem to be working too hard either - oflynn and faherty were annonymous - again

no one taking control or looking for it in midfield

a big confidence killer this one id say
    more water!

Maybe a kick in the ass is what we all needed Corby rather than a confidence killer. I agree with your post more than some of the over the top stuff. I agree we never looked like conceeding until Flynny lost myler in the area 2 mins before half time and their 2nd was a killer because we were still in the game but the last 2 were down to the players switching off and losing heart.

Even Fitzgerald had a bad game which maybe shows it was a one off. We have just come off the back of 5 great results and to start hammering the team again is slightly over the top.

gufct everyone would have expected you to come out with the tinted glasses stuff again.

It was a shambles from start to finish. This team are full time.Where was/is the evidence of that all season?
People are entitled to be harsh on them considering all that is done for them.It was a paltry effort with no tactics, pride or passion.
5 great results garnered a whopping 7 points out of 15.We're 6 points from bottom and we're going into a crunch period against teams who have experience in these situations-and probably give a ****-unlike the majority of our squad.

The question has to be asked why Sligo,Rovers etc are all so much better than us-comsidering we have a bigger budget.
Failure to beat Pats and especially Longford and we're doomed for an inevitable return to the 1st Division.
We shouldn't even be in this situation.Get rid of all the deadweight for next year-management and 50% of the squad!

gufct and conor, id have to say im somewhere in the middle - i just think these lads can play a lot better and do sometimes - but just not consistantly enough

with the monkey off the back at home - they have to come on and show some fight at home - its must win against longford - to slow them down and a point is respectable from pats - but the win and points are needed at this stage

i have to say i dont think we will be relegated (famous last words) i think these guys if they want to play, can stay up

dont think the home crowd will be too quiet for too long if the performance was like friday night last - this could be a good thing and a bad thing - depending how the players react to it

i think they will react positively and win at home - hopefully!

    i wonder

gufct your loyalty is admirable and we all know that if we get relegated you will be still there with the 400 brave souls. Unfortunately though for a team of coach, players & staff that are "building" there is not a lot of hope. Next year is going to be woeful tough to avoid the drop into obscurity. With longfords deduction and waterford so bad, this year is a lot easier than anticipated yet we still will struggle to survive. A part time manager, full time team and the rest of the "team" fond of the bookies as opposed to the training pitch I dont think the likes of gufct ,Patrick Dunne C Holland and the management board is being treated with the respect they are dipping deep into their pockets for. Questions have to be asked and its no harm or act of disloyalty to offer an opinion. Maybe those very opinions shook a few (of the shysters that make up united at the moment) after the bray and waterford, raceweek debacle. The fact is bar the sligo good performance and the brave effort against the leaders we are a ****e football team with very little ability. Heads should not go down with "professionals" if they do they should be out soon afterwards.

Still all is not lost ,survival is what we asked and hopefully what we will get this season but improvement i cant see coming with this team and there is no time to twaddle around and wait

im somewhere in the middle of ye 2 aswell.

i dont think we will go down but i can only think of around 5/6 who id keep on for next season.the managers position must be questioned too given the resources hes had this season.
i agree with conor H in that the players are treated so well, spoiled even, and have given little in return for the shirt.im an optimist though in all walks of life and think we will stay up,just.

We can stay up, and I believe we will.

I know that many supporters are extremely unhappy with the current playing
and management set-up. However, at this stage, we have very little option but to stand behind the squad until the end of the season.

As corbyeire says, good home support for the games against Pats and Longford is vital.

There will have to be a thorough review of the performances of players and management at the end of the season.

    Well said Pa .

This is a time when we need to get behind the team as we must be in the premier league next season .

    In Fairness

I can see both sides of all the arguments but the bottom line is that the people that criticise the team and support the team on here will all be standing together in Terryland and other venues for the remaining games of the season as we always do, thats what support is all about. Keep the heads up is the message. If we stay up (or even if we go down) then we can swing the axe.

Agreed, the present set up of players and management are in place for the rest of the season and they will get my full backing, a bit like the Irish situation but don't get me started on that! But as baileban said a complete review and overhaul will be needed during the off season, starting from the top down...

It's your away form that will keep you up, you've only lost at one club this season. Most teams do lose to us at Tolka, no matter how they're set up.

Well were on a one game losing streak away from home now! Ipredict that we will take more points at home in the remaining matches than we have done earlier in the season.

I think the doom and gloom on this forum is way OTT.

We were rubbish on Friday but had been on a 5 game unbeaten run before that.

Our last 6 games have been played against the league leaders (twice) and the teams in 2nd, 4th, 5th and 8th.

We're in the perfect position for the rest of the season with all the weaker teams left to play.

Waterford have had 1 win in their last 10 games and Bray haven't won in 8 and both have much tougher run-ins than us. Longford even with their great run are still 6 points behind us and still have to play Bray and Waterford so unless we lose nearly every game from now til the end of the season it is very difficult to see how we could finish in the bottom 2.

Every week after a defeat the next game is a "MUST-WIN" - we've seen this since the start of the season and seeing as we only have 4 wins all season I'd say we mustn't have won a hell of a lot of the must win games but we're still OK.

I've seen some bad managers and players in my time supporting United but I don't think Tony or any of the players in the squad come near that.

I predict that we'll beat UCD on the last day of the season to finish above them in 8th place in the league, which for our first season up will have been a decent achievement and something to build on for next year.
I phoned the speaking clock to hear a voice speak, it said - "At the tone you will be very much alone"

Great enthusiasm JC. And great post. We do have an easier run in but we have played very badly against all the teams around us thats whats worrying!

Think you're missing the point JC.

Every team has bad results here and there but it's the attitude of certain players and the shocking standard of football played at times that gets on everyone's nerves.

TC hasn't delivered on 2/3 of his own objectives.
    League Cup-Knocked out 2nd Round
FAI Cup-Knocked out by a 1st Division Team in the 2nd Round.
One win at home all season.

This is all made worse by the fact that we are full time.Nobody was expecting top 6 this year but it's not alot to ask to be in and around it.What benefits have shown to the full time set up?Why can't we beat any of the part time teams?

We will more than likely stay up but that doesn't mean everyone has to be satisfied with the year.If you set high targets you deliver high standards.Rovers been the prime example. It shows that with a proper attitude and work ethic it's not hard to do well in this league.TC's ethos of treating them like royalty hasn't worked.Scrap the luxuires and only keep the players who are 100% committed to playing and winning for UTD.
Next year we shouldn't and won't accept the same performances and position that we're currently in.Top 6 is the aim.Can TC deliver?

This is one of the problems, he didnt set high standards (Gilberto was jumping up and down about this at the start of the season and in hindsight he was right). Survival was all he was looking for and probably will get it. Had we aimed for Europe we might have finished a little higher maybe. Not too bothered about where Rovers are tbh as they were only down for one season weve been there for an age so we wouldnt be used to the pace etc of Premier footie. Havin said that we have brought in many players who have such experience and should be able to step up to the task.
