First whipping of the season at a bad time. At least the others didnt win and only Waterford made up a point.

    Yikes!

No help for the goal difference that. At least Bray and Longford lost. Waterford got a point though.

    Not Good Enough

Its a joke that we can loose by this heavy score line against a part time team. Im begining to think we are wasting money on players who are certainly not worth it. Cousins dosent know Quaility if it bit him on the nose. Ive really been patient up to now but this isnt good enough If Bray And Longford had picked up points this Thread would be flooded with Complaints. I dont know what others think but im sick of losing to "part timers" with the structures we have in place

Hats off to the Galway United fans who respected the pre-match minute for Alan 'Nipper' Nolan. Hope you guys stay up because going to Terryland is always a pleasure, regardless of the result.

As a Hoop I thought the Galway defence looked a yard or two off the pace when Charles came on and we coulda scored 5 or 6 in the last 20 minutes. Id hate to see Galway do down and hope that Longford go down (throwing a 2-0 lead will be a big blow to their confidence).

it will take time before we see the full benifits of full time football(look at drogs it took them 3-4 years)
rovers may be a part time but they have a great squad and manager so i would'nt read too much into last nights result but what is important is how tony and the squad react this week and how the prepare for pats friday week.

We have to get four points from our next two games, both at home.
A draw against Pats (at least) and Longford is a must win.

The return in the form of results from the first team has been very poor.
When you are outclassed by a part-time side, questions have to be asked.

Rovers fitness levels and preparation are far better than ours. They have scored four goals against
us in the last five minutes of our three matches this season.

One would expect the opposite to be the case.

    men among boys

according to the analyst on radio 1 , they called o brien lazy, the team limited, it was also said the united team looked uninterested and completely lacked any sort of concentration and absolutely no game plan. The guy ended up apologising for his comments but said he had to speak the truth.

Now if we are "professional" we shouldnt be swithing off, lazy or uninterested for starters. This bunch are not acting, thinking or behaving like professionals but remember are taking the wages. We cant afford this next season. Rovers for heaven sake are part time

    Pathetic performance last night.
Once again our "professionals" were outclassed by a bunch of part timers who had more desire, tactically more aware and much fitter and sharp.

Tony Cousins tactics-what were they?We hoofed the ball all night long.....didn't have one shot on target, failed to make any passes etc etc.
Why don't we have a Coach? Our Managerial set up consists of an inexperienced manager,a Goalkeeping Coach and a fitness Coach.

Why was David Cooke playing ahead of Robson?
Stephen O Flynn is the biggest waster in a long time to play for UTD.
Murphy isn't half the player he was.
Derek glynn has looked very average in the last few weeks.

Once again we're back in he mix of it.6 points is a must against pats and Longford.

For people who weren't there......think back to the performance against Waterford.. multiply it by 10.....and you're not half way there. That's how bad it was.

Rovers players go back to work......our's go back to been treated like royalty.

Tony Cousins tactics generally seem to be 'get the ball into the other half by whatever means and hope we'll pick up the scraps'. As for Alan Murphy, he looks as if he has been wearing a 'tactical straight jacket' this season.
I really think if a decent manager had the squad and opportunity to prepare for matches that TC does, then we wouldn't be in a situation like this. I hope the board are at least considering replacements.

United were fairly desperate last night. Like has been said already loads of long balls but the thing was they were really bad long balls that the strikers didnt have a hope of doing anything with, so i find it hard to blame them. I felt a bit sorry for Derek Glynn going off early because he was given nothing to work with, he is only good when he is facing the opposition goals or in a straight race with a defender. A few players didnt show up at all. Robson should have been playing from the start as well imo.

    tony reckons

we are "building" the only players good enough as premier players for next season are Rogers, fitzgerald and regi in my opinion, Id have glynn, Keane & russell because they are young, have some potential and are local. The rest are 1st division material at best.
The club seriously needs to ask itself hard questions if we survive this season to ensure its massive investment doesnt go down the swanny.

Wasnt at the match so wont comment but sounds like the same old **** different day. Its becoming very frustrating watchin an ok performance one week and an abysmal one the next. Its squeaky bum time now with a massive game against Longford on the way. At the moment Im not confident we can survive, simply because the team has no passion for the club we love. Longford's run wasnt going to last forever but they are in with a major chance now. As with last years situation of not knowin which division we will be in I'm sure that the board has two budgets ready to implement for next season.

It was a terrible performance and Tony admitted as much, he said we were only lucky to lose by 4 and that most of the players looked uninterested.

We were terrible in possession and at the back we were poor. I thought Fitzgerland had a bad game and like the whole season we have no left back. Wes is a serious liability in that position because he has absolutely no pace and any have decent winger will have a field day.

I thought Robson did OK when he came on and absolutely clattered a Rovers player after about 30 seconds! It's too easy to say he should start instead of Cooke as I doubt he can play on the right.

It's hard to take any positives from the game at all but at least Waterford only gained a point and all other teams lost.
I phoned the speaking clock to hear a voice speak, it said - "At the tone you will be very much alone"

this crap has annoyed me a few times but he persists in doing it...... right whatever about pre-injury to Regi, but when reggie went off if Wes had to come on put him CB with fitzy move lester up to midfield and greg back to left back

    Keane Wes Fitzy O'Halloren
    '' lester '' ''

why cant the simple changes be made sometimes instead of having 3/4 players out of position especially when it means a giant with no pace or passing ability at wing back!!
There's the right way, the wrong way.... and the Max Power way!! :-D

    Match report from Rovers' website
    www.shamrockrovers.ie
    __________________________________________________ __
Andy Myler took another match ball home with him as a final flourish to the game saw the Hoops hit the Tribesmen for four. However after a good start, Rovers lost their way a little and Mylers opening goal just before the break was badly needed. Padraig Amond started at number nine and shot just wide after 2 minutes. A minute later Danny O'Connor threaded a through ball for Amond but Rogers in the visitors goal won the race to the ball. Amond was the provider after six minutes when he found Myler in the box but the Hoops number ten dragged his shot wide from close range.

Galways early contribution saw Lesters free-kick hit the wall and an audacious overhead kick was straight at Murphy. A mistake in the visitors defence in the 21st minute almost put Amond through but Rogers again advanced to block. Four minutes later Myler chipped a through ball for Amond and the Carlow man did well to get past Rogers but a defender got across to clear.

Some good defending from O'Brien cleared a dangerous cross in the 29th minute. The Rovers defender then sent in a free-kick that Myler met but headed wide. Another O'Brien free-kick found Ferguson in the box a minute later but again the header was off-target. The game had gone dead when the Hoops won a corner in the 43rd minute and John Martin sent in a deep cross that Myler chested down and slammed a shot into the roof of the net for a fine goal.

The second half saw Amond again cause problems for the Galway defence firstly forcing a defender to knock the ball just past his own post and then running on to a Doyle ball before a defender got back to clear. A Martin free-kick was volleyed over by Myler on 56 minutes. A minute later the visitors had their best chance when the lively Murphy got around Ferguson in the box and fired in a low cross that O'Flynn just failed to get a touch on.

Myler forced Rogers to save from a corner in the 61st minute but five minutes later the Hoops doubled their lead when a quickly taken free-kick saw Martin fire in a cross that Amond headed down into the ground and into the corner of the net. Galway were never at the races after that and Danny O'Connor turned and shot just wide on 70 minutes.

As the game entered the final five minutes the Hoops really turned the screw with Myler shooting wide on the right and substitute Purcell shooting just wide from a similiar position. Amond found Myler in acres of space in the box on 89 minutes and he coolly slipped the ball past Rogers. The game had entered stoppage time and with Galway on the ropes Myler again was found in space and he slotted home his hat-trick goal in style.
