I know there may be some kind of transition period, but I don't see why it would take a long time for going full time to give benefits.

As for Drogheda- I'm not sure what the point is here. They kept firing more and more money at their squad and eventually this looks like paying off, albeit in a year when the competition in the premier is unusually low (at the top end anyway).

The original point was that GU should be at least as fit and probably much fitter than Rovers because GU are full time, and I think that point stands.
The difference is Rovers have more or less the same squad as last year, GUFC have practically a new team, the Drogs are the new Shels, I expect them to be playing Kilkenny City the season after next.

Don O Bate is right. We are now full time as are Drogs etc. But we have the best run organisation in the league. Its easy to throw buckets of someone elses cash at a team and buy success. United have cut their clothes according to their cloth and it is, in the long run the only sustainable way to keep a club afloat. If you dont have it dont spend it , it will catch up with you. The big spenders today are under pressure , serious pressure to deliver and get into Europe to get an immediate return. The sugardaddys are not going to hang around if the winnng stops. When Utd survive this season of readjustment which we all hope and pray they do they will kick on next season and the season after and become a force to be reckoned with at the top of the League with the best run club both on and off the field!

    Starting 11 tomorrow night???

No harm in a bit of fun speculating.
    my 11 would be.
    Rodgers
    Reggie(RB) Lester Fitzgerald Keane(LB)
    Daryl O'Halloran Murph O.Brien(LW)
    Faherty O'Flynn.
i just think vinny looked alot more lively then derek last friday night and is a bigger guy too.i think robson murph and greg will tuck into the centre with o.brien as our outlet down the wing.
    Prediction 0-0,maybe 0-1 to us.

Rovers v Galway Utd, Tolka Park, Friday Sept 14th 8pm: Team News

    TEAM NEWS

Both Alan Reynolds and Eric McGill are suspended, while there are doubts about the fitness and availibility of Tadhg Purcell and Ger O'Brien. Long-term casualty Aidan Price remains sidelined.

"With Alan and Eric unavailable, we're hopeful that everyone else will be fit," says Hoops' boss Pat Scully. "We won't make a call on the squad until just before the game.

"There is good news about Aidan Price. He's back running now, but it's still very much a case of taking it a week at a time and hoping that he keeps making progress.

"As last week's game against Bohemians was postponed until next Monday, we're going to need as strong a squad as possible for two tough games in four days."

    WHAT SCULLY SAYS ….

about Rovers' 0-1 defeat by Longford Town
"It was very disappointing to lose that game – especially by conceding such a late goal. There was also a certain amount of nervousness about our performance.

"While that's understandable, as none of our players have ever been in the running for the Premier Division title before, it's something that they have to overcome.

"There's a certain pressure that comes with being at Shamrock Rovers, and it's a question of turning that into a positive because that pressure will never go away.

about tomorrow's game against Galway United
"Galway are a good side, and they have the financial resources that allowed them to recently bring in six players from English and other Premier Division clubs.

"They also have a full-time squad while we're part-time, which gives them an advantage. Having said that I'll be looking for a winning performance from our players.

"This season has been a great experience so far for everyone at the club. Hopefully we can make that knowledge count in the run-in and show the strength of our character.

"These are the most important games and this is the most crucial part of the season. We're going to find out a lot about ourselves over the coming few weeks."

Full squad to choose from http://www.galwayunitedfc.ie/match-p...-united-2.html

    I'd go with..........
    -------------------------- Rogers-------------------------------

    Regi-------------Fitzy------------------Lester------------- Keano

    Fagan-----------Murphs--------------Robson--------------O'Brien

    ------------------Glynn--------------O'Flynn---------------------

I know Glynn didn't have the best game against Drogs but he has proven his class. Murphs/ Greg is a tough one I feel that Murphs on his game offers more going forward.
I was impressed by Fagan in the Waterford game. He was one of the few who gave everything, haven't see too much of him since but I'd give him the nod just ahead of Cookie.
I'd say it'll be a low scoring game 0-0 1-1 or 1-0 hopefully to United.

I'd say this wil be a Good game, two teams playing well, Rovers have a great Defense and the lads are fit as f**k and will be raring to go after the Break.
On another Note: Why are you called United and not City or just Galway F.C.

Why are you called Shamrock Rovers and not just Shamrock as Sky Sports like to call you? I think Shamrock sounds better

    No smart arse intended

It's just because you are the only team in Galway, normally teams pick city or united if there are two teams in the town, Man U - Man City.
I was just showing some polite interest not being at all smart and to be honest i am delighted to see GUFC back in the top flight and was bored in
work so said f**k it why not ask.
See you some of you lads at the Game.

I am open to correction here Forza, but it is to signify that Galway is United behind the team. Were previously known as Galway Rovers, but think the idea to change the name in the early 80s was a nod to the fact that the team represented all of Galway, and not just the city, hence Galway United.
